Grey's Anatomy Review: Change of Heart

at . Comments

While Grey's Anatomy was all about Cristina and Meredith last week, "Second Opinion" went back to involving pretty much every cast member.

For some of the characters, this worked. For a few others? Much was left to be desired.

Derek With Callie

Yay for Cristina being back (although I still wish Dr. Thomas got to join her at Seattle Grace)... but I was prepared for her to be more mean towards the interns. And although her intern nicknames were hilarious, I rather liked seeing her be the teacher in her own blunt way. She always nails her comedic lines as well as the emotional ones, so really it was great to have her a part of the team again.

At the same time, I loved that Bailey worked her magic on Arizona and sort of tricked her into coming to work. It was a genius idea that could have easily backfired. Arizona belongs at work.

But can Derek ever work again? The emotional moments of Callie admitting that Derek wouldn't be able to operate was heartbreaking. She didn't want to admit it, with their follow-up conversation only adding to the stress. These two are friends and seeing them angry and upset was a great moment.

So it was a positive shift when she recanted and began to offer up numerous ways Derek could recover. I hope he does get to.

As for Owen, I completely understand his outburst on Cristina's work. He just wants to protect her and it was fantastic when she realized that he was the one pushing for her to come back. Is there a chance for thaeir relationship here again? Any at all?

I'm not sure if Cristina is ready for something like that. She did decide to move in with Alex after all.

And I enjoyed getting that old school vibe of when they used to all hang out together. Even Meredith naming off all the problems that Alex had with the place was a fun touch.

It's definitely enjoyable seeing those lighthearted scenes take place, as great as it is to see Jackson squirm with awkwardness around Webber.

I couldn't help but laugh at Jackson getting the dirty email from Webber followed by his mom. And to top it off, Webber telling Jackson he really wanted them to be together was perfect. What an uncomfortable situation.

But of course, with the good, comes the bad.

I'm not digging April's Jesus rants. I get her feelings and frustrations and confusion, but it just feels tiresome. And sure, maybe Jackson digs a little crazy, but I'd like to see them develop beyond the whole "let's have sex, awesome, you're bumming Jesus out" routine.

And as much as the episode was all about sparking change and the recognition of moving forward, I could have done without the intern Jo and her puke-infested patient. It just felt forced in trying to prove that she could prove herself.

In reality, there just felt like a lot was going on, which is usual for the show, but I think I would have been okay with only focusing on a few of the characters in addition to the plane crash damage assessment.

The final result was a shock. They're going to sue the hospital and essentially Owen? That's going to cause a lot of personal drama in that work environment.

Overall, this was a fair episode and something of a transitioning one, but easily forgettable in a pretty good season.

Now I wonder what other dwarf names the interns will get...

What did you all think of the episode? Are you glad Cristina is back? Are you surprised the lawyers want to go after the hospital?

joy I don't watch because of Owen and Cristina...And it would be unrealistic if they just said " Oh! Let's forget all the issues we have and get together! *kiss, sex* and then they're back together... I hope it won't happen.

The lawsuit storyline is boring, perhaps GA writers are not good at? change the subject ASAP
Most of CO fans lose patience with waiting !! we watch GA only for Owen/Cristina as a couple

He taught her soooo much ! More than Burke, he was a great friend in this short amount of time.
Episode 6 : Good job Bailey !! Arizona is almost back ! Callie and Dereck were just, wow...she was in a dark place now she's got more hope ! Cris is BACK !! It took poor dinosaur to die for her to come back, oh well, at least she won't have to sleep with... grrr can't even say it ! Want Owen and Cris back together...will be a bit difficult since the lawyers wanna go after him and she moved out... April and Avery, I want more ! lol.
Cannot wait for the rest !!!!!

I loved the episode i just can not believe they are thinking about suing the hospital and if they do that how will, they work there does this mean its really out with the old and in with the new because if they take to suing the hospital and the interns eventually becoming the main stars i am boycotting the show and i personally think this will be Shonda's last season so please lord don't let her do it i love GREY's ANATOMY especially the avery april affair because he is so damn sexy and april makes it really funny with her jesus talks

FEELS GOOD TO BE BACK !!!! Watch the episode 4 AND LOVED IT !!!Kepner made me laugh so bad ! I SO KNEW Cris would have sex with her boss and I can't stand it ! everytime he puts his hands on her, I wanna kill him! And loved the Mer/Der moments ! Can't get enough of Cris and Dinosaur ! Also, Webber and Kate, love love love ! Arizona is FINALLY getting there, thank u Karev !. Owen, honey, aske them to bring your wife back !
Episode 5 : Pee-Pee in the Potty, that just killed me lmaooooo. On a more serious note, as soon as I saw that woman under the car, I knew : this is he episode where Mer breaks down ! She looked Lexie... Damn these writers are good ! But yes, she's not Lexie. They are not in the woods no more. But the end made me cry, I miss her sooo much. Lexie's dead. Those words say it all. I think she grieved, after all these months, she has come to that realization where "everyone" is dead, Cris as well. But seriously, killing the dinosaur like that, I cried. He taught her soooo much ! More than Burke, he was a great friend in this short amount of time.

Cristina yang i love her so much, love that she is back shes amazing sandra oh is the best i mean her acting is just so good love her love her, please somebody call shonda rhymes and ask when is she is going stop that April-jackson situation come on shes so annoying.
Robin is almost ready to go back to work thats good i think that may save her relanshioship with callie.

i liked the fact that dr. yang is back in SGMWH and kicking up a storm. same goes for dr arizona. i am awaiting the lawsuits that will be filed by the lawyers of both camps. how did the SGMWH get into the mix? was there any findings that dr hunt sabotaged the lane to crash and delayed the rescue? any motives for dr hunt to do those evil things to his family? any justification for the ignored phone calls during the time that the crash happened? why the rescue was too long to come to the victims? a lot to build on. so let the new faces take a backseat. they are not needed yet. newbies make GA story too thin.SR, you don't newbies to glues us in to GA

I think Shonda Rhimes doesn't think it trough sometimes for some storylines. Arizona's amputee situation and Derek's hand are good storylines, and it's heading somewhere, it's exciting. So is the love story between Catherine and Richard.
But I don't see where she wants to go with Owen and Cristina, it feels like it's going in circles and it's neverending. Either they come back together (and can you, really when it comes about having kids) or they just stop. Same with April, her and Jackson could have been a good idea but this whole Jesus thing gets more and more ridiculous and it gets less and less realistic. Where is that going ?

they've been through) and the end of the show. Because to me it seems like the storylines are getting worse and worse now.

kids and they'll never end up totally happy, because their imaginations concerning the future just don't fit. I think they should get divorced and both find someone else to spend their lives with.
I hate April's Jesus-bullshit-talk. Damn it girl if you wanna have a desert go and get it and stop whining. Grow up!
Looking forward to the Derek and Callie storyline. I love these two together. It seems to me like Marks death made them grow closer.
But all in all as sad as it makes me to say this, because for a very long time I couldn't imagine living without this TV show, even I am now of the opinion that Grey's Anatomys best days are over. There's nothing more to get than drama drama drama and it doesn't work for me that Shonda brings in new interns all the time that we are supposed to like or even love. We won't! We love the original Grey's Anatomy members and nothing will change that. So I think there should be a happy ending for all of them (as far as this is possible after all they've been through) and the end of the show. Because to me it seems like the storylines are getting worse and worse now.
