Grey's Anatomy Review: Can I Get Some Help Here?

by at . Comments

This was one of those Grey's Anatomy episodes that viewers will either love or hate. They will love the fact that it focused on the heart of this series: Yang and Grey. They will hate that the other main characters were pretty much MIA and the majority of the other individuals featured were new. Where do you fall in this debate?

Let’s discuss "Beautiful Doom."

Hi! Over Here!

I adored the hour. It focused on the two characters that are most beloved. Those who have been watching Grey’s Anatomy from the beginning feel a connection to these women. Nothing was proven more in this episode that these girls have grown up in a major way, but they both need help from time to time.

Goodbye Minnesota. The writers took a major chance on sending Cristina to another hospital. How was this going to work? Was it going to work? Turns out it did.

Yang developed quite the friendship with Dr. Thomas and the events here were a shock. She was able to learn from this man in a way she hasn’t learned since Dr. Burke. There had to be a reason to send Yang back to Seattle. Who would have guessed that her Clinic BFF would drop dead in the OR? Shonda... you did it again. I know I wasn’t the only one who teared up when Mr. Feeny died. William Daniels, you were a great addition to the show. Who knows, maybe he is heading back to his old stomping grounds.

The death of her dinosaur friend sent Yang back to Meredith. Is she here to stay? I’m guessing yes - and couldn’t be more happy!

This Isn’t Lexie. Meredith struggled with a case that resembled the same trauma Lexie endured in the woods. Did it hit a little close to home? Absolutely. It needed to. There has hardly been any mention of Little Grey this season. Let’s not forget that she was Mer’s sister, Jackson’s girlfriend and a co-worker and friend to everyone else.

Mer rocked it as a successful mother who needed a little help. Zola got passed around through the doctors, but Grey was able to save her patient. She even finished up with a 30-second dance party. Awesome.

3 New Faces

Grown Ups. These characters have made some serious strides since they started out at Seattle Grace. Watching Meredith get her daughter ready for day care, remembering the fish sticks for multi-cultural day, all while potty training Zola and saving a woman? It has never been more obvious that she is no longer dark and twisty. I can’t say that I don’t miss the train wreck she used to be, but Grey is all grown up. Yang too - she’s more evolved, caring, compassionate. Love it.

The switching back and forth and split screens of the two BFFs were a little much at times, but it worked. Grey’s Anatomy continues to find ways to hook its viewers back in when things haven’t been completely up to par.

Overall, a great episode. We lost a new friend but Seattle gained back an old one. Spending so much time on these characters led to some hilarious one liners that you can check out on the Grey’s Anatomy quotes page. Hit up the comments section and let us know what you thought of “Beautiful Doom.”

I totally enjoyed the focus and thought Shonda was pulling out all the stops and tugging at our heartstrings in many different ways. For one, it became clear last night that Meredith was no longer an intern, or a doctor in training but a real, professional and respected doctor. That's been a long road. Christina has never listened to anyone but we always knew she was brilliant. The dialogue about that was like something out of Atlas Shrugged and I think it will forever give her the confidence she needs to be who she is and that's that! Having figured all that out, she needed to return to Meredith. Both women are now fully realized and fulfilled (for the time being) and I think their new found courage and sense of accomplishment will only deepen their affection for one another. Finally, some of life's biggest tests were taken...and they both passed with flying colors!

Kicked this show to the curb after the Denny the Ghost season ....are they all still doing each other ? Nothing more boring than sex on commercial network channels ...let me watch paint dry instead !!!

At first I wasn't a big fan of this episode. The bits with Zola and Meredith were very cute and sad.. (When meredith was about to cry after dropping zola off at callis) but the telephone calls between christina and meredith and the split screens were getting annoying.. I just wanted christina to come home. So I was surprise yet sooo happy at the end !! I'm hoping the season gets better because the few episodes for this have been boring...

I hope to goodness that the horrible Izzie isn't coming back, I will have to give up watching Grey's if she does, she is a dreadful actress and it was the best episode since this program started when she left.

I loved this episode. I hate that Dr Thomas died but he taught Christina humility. I am so glad she is going to be back at SGH. I loved the preview where the Interns said she was so mean. LOL. I hope she and Hunt get back together. Meredith's part was so touching, watching her try to take care of the patient who to her was Lexie, so glad that the patient survived, and watching her trying to be a Mommy too and feeling so torn between her baby and her patient. She is so not like her Mom. Also the homeage was paid to Lexie and her relationship with Meredith. I can't wait to see the other episodes with Christina back and what trouble the 2 of them will get into together. The twisted sisters are back. Now if Izzie could come back just for a few episodes. I hope before the entire series ends she does come back at least for one episode.

I’m sure many of us (or had someone on our behalf) to step up an internet payment for their parents because the vendor no longer accepted in-store or mail-in payments. Dr Thomas will be sorely missed

But much like parents would, he checks on Cristina. What I found quite neat was that Dr Thomas’s parental attitude toward Cristina isn’t one sided. It works in reverse as well. Cristina’s behavior toward Dr Thomas is much like an adult child behaving to his/her parents. In episode four, when Dr Thomas performed the surgery using more up-to-date method, Dr Thomas was having trouble and was about to quit. However, Cristina helps him by telling him to “turn his right wrist like this. Cristina essentially saved him from being forced to retire.
With the changing technology, there’s a clear ageism in the society. It is almost as if not being able to use computers or being less sensitive to changes in technology is forcing older generation to be pigeon holed and retire. This is much like Dr Thomas’s case. So, often times children of those older generation steps in to “save their parents. A tricky area for most parents, especially for those with adult children, is stepping in their children’s lives and encouraging or suggesting something to their kids without being seen as the meddler. But Dr Thomas did this quite well. He understood Cristina. He probed her with the right amount of judgement and criticism without sending her into a rage. Like most parents, he has high expectations of Yang and believes that she’s great. This is shown when he tells her that she will be the surgeon of her generation (s9e5). And let’s not forget the most important characteristic of parents: being there for you to give you a hug. A hug is warm embrace and a sign of caring. At the end of episode 3, Dr Thomas offers Cristina a handkerchief. Although they don’t physically hug, Dr Thomas’s action of handing Cristina a handkerchief is a sign of caring. He could’ve just behaved indifferently toward Cristina’s situation and let her be. But much like parents would, he checks on Cristina.
