Hart of Dixie Review: Romeo and Juliet; Jealousy and Sleepwalking

at . Comments

"Walkin' After Midnight" featured a central theme tonight that had everyone's storyline connected: romantic feelings.

There was Lemon realizing she had feelings for Lavon, George confessing he still wants to be with Zoe, Annabeth fake dating Lavon in the hopes that they would end up together, George meeting a new woman, Zoe and Wade continuing to sleep together and the possibility that Lavon and Ruby will reconcile.

Phew! That's many different romantic angles to play into in one hour - but it worked.

Halloween in Bluebell

I'll start with Annabeth and her feelings for Lavon. I have to admit I didn't like this at all until I realized that the only reason it was being shoved down our throats was because it was the catalyst for Lemon to realize that she still had feelings for Lavon. When we see jealous Lemon that usually means that she is going to be mean and unreasonable, that wasn't the case tonight. I call that character growth.

Lemon helped Lavon see reason in lying to get votes; that isn't who he was. Though her motives may have been misguided by her feelings, the intention was pure. Lavon has always been one of my favorites because he is true to himself and what he believes in; that is what Lemon sees. I was extremely pleased when he fixed made right with his lie which in turn caused Ruby to apologize to him as well.

Ruby also showed some major growth in the episode. In the past I have said that Ruby is going to be the reason for other characters to grow and I figured she would stay fairly static. I was wrong. Ruby apologizing to Lavon for playing dirty means one thing: this is the start of a love triangle. Lavon/Lemon/Ruby and, since Annabell likes the mayor, I guess it's now a love square with Lavon/Lemon/Ruby/Annabeth. Looks like George isn't the only man in Bluebell with a bunch of ladies swooning over him.

We've all learned to love George for being such a gentleman and tonight he had ladies coming at him left and right. He was also Zoe's mysterious house guest and this led to some heavy scenes between them. Unfortunately, this was my least favorite part of the episode. I thought it was really ridiculous to have George sleepwalking and pretending that he and Zoe were dating just so it could come out that George still had feelings for Zoe.

I don't need to be told that those feelings still exist, it's obvious. I did become more involved with George's character when his new love interest was introduced at the end of the episode. She's the kind of girl who will give George a run for his money and I look forward to seeing this new dynamic.

Wade tonight made me especially happy. I really love him in a mature role and not being the jerk bartender. For the past two episodes Wade has been such a lovable guy and what Zoe deserves. My favorite scene took place when he said he was going to enforce their rules and pushed George in the water. Zoe was being hypocritical and I am very glad he confronted her about it. It needed to be done.

Right now I want Zoe and Wade together, George can go be happy elsewhere.

The only other thing I disliked was that Rose wasn't in another episode. I love Rose. She brings such an innocent and adorable aspect to the show that keeps it fresh. Hart of Dixie doesn't return until November 13, so I hope that she'll show up in that episode. If not, she'll definitely be in the November 20 episode because that is when McKayla Maroney will be guest starring as Rose's best friend.

Overall tonight was a pretty decent episode, not the best of season two but it was good. I can't wait to see how the election turns out. My vote is for Mr. Lavon Hayes.

I'm still not as convinced that ZG are still the couple. Sure the way they were written was bad. They have taken a lot of time to build up the relationship between ZW even going back to last season. And again it would have been so easy to throw ZW under the bus and keep it a purely physical relationship. I get that they keep trying ZG. I think that is mostly out of love for the damn triangle more than ZG. The problem is that the way ZG has been written the triangle just doesn't seem balanced. Although I love ZW I'd buy ZG as a couple if they were written better. Contrast that with ZW who for the most part have been shown to progress from the very first episode. And then there is still the finale which would have been a satisfactory ending to the show which was very pro WZ and was done before they knew they were picked up for season 2.

I love Wade/Zoe too and will keep on watching until they bring back the George/Zoe crap. I don't dislike Porter I just HATE the way his character is written...he can do no WRONG and people believe this crap. Neither George or Zoe have ever admitted their inapproprate behavior (flirting/dating etc.,) but instead the show covered it up. Now he's out dating as if he did nothing WRONG...he looks ARRANT. I get the message (and I think so does others) Zoe and George are the main couple so they can do/ treat people as they please.

Until they actually start writing for GZ and actually show why they should be a couple with this amazing connection I'm writing them off. I would actually love it if they put GZ together to show us why we are supposed to support them as a couple. I just think that at this point the fanbases are already behind who they like. No one is really going to switch sides. This 3rd person is actually going to succeed in making both bases mad because they'll each see it as a slap in their face. But being on the ZW side I actually feel more secure than I would as a GZ fan because at least ZW are progressing. I don't care if it is a ratings ploy or not. They are getting a lot of time and I like the writing for them. They are also not throwing Wade under the bus. So that keeps me a happy fan of the show.

I don't think they will bring on a new love interest for Wade ... he would overshadow the ICONIC couple G/Z. I don't think they know what to do with him at this point, but, they know they can't get rid of him at the moment.

I was trying to say that if Wade ever gets a viable love interest then they won't be able to tease the fans with ZW. So I also don't really see that happening. And again nothing against Scott Porter because he seems like a sweet guy and I actually like George as a character. Just not with Zoe. I actually really like George with Lemon and think that dynamic works sort of like Zoe and Wade work.

Again we are in complete agreement :) I don't see the need for the 3rd person other than to try to mash together the characters of Wade and George into one. I still don't think the character is going to be a permanent character on the show. He'll probably be around for most of the 2nd half of the season. There isn't room in the cast to support another male. Now they could use another female easily and I wouldn't mind seeing AB bumped up to a regular. The new person isn't going to be any more acceptable for Zoe than George is. Actually less so. At least George is a known entity. :) It is just a plot device at this point because they can't do ZG because then they won't get the ratings. Ultimately they are either going to have to accept a ratings drop if they want GZ and ultimately the end of the show, or just accept that a majority of the fans want ZW. I won't get worried about anything really unless they bring a viable love interest on for Wade. If they do that then I think they've moved on from ZW, but then they couldn't use them to tease the fans with.

correction...and pointed out.

Tap 76 why add a third person...the show now needs a new plot. Because of the rating they can't use G/Z as they intented. Also it could be that Bethel is overshadowing Porter. They did described the third guy as sexy and charismatic (is this not Wade?) and so point off that he was a doctor.

And the drop in ratings after the first episode I think we are sort of in agreement. Certainly some ZW fans checked out and didn't watch the 2nd episode. And it probably had something to do with her not picking him. I also think that the way Wade's character was handled made it look like he was being thrown under the bus once again to prop up GZ affected people wanting to watch. So actually we are in agreement. The first episode did make it look like she was going to use Wade for now until the magical stars aligned aka George was acceptable enough for the fans to put GZ together. And clearly that is not acceptable to the ZW fans. I also expect a similar drop in ratings for the next episode because of this past one. I'm hoping not because the ratings were looking to be somewhat stable.

I actually agree with you. I fully expected them to end ZW sometime around episode 6-10. And then shift to ZG in the second half of the season. As soon as I saw the ratings were touch and go I expected them to keep with ZW so as to not rock the boat. Now them bringing in a 3rd person makes it really seem like they are not risking ZG at least this season. I do expect ZW to break up in the 2nd half at some point but possibly get back together at the end like the first season and mostly for the ratings and a 3rd season. And if there is a 3rd season I do expect that at that point they have to do ZG. I just don't think that ZG together can drive the show. And I think that with the way things have gone so far that someone must have realized it. Now as to who ends up together for the very last show, I really don't care as long as I get an entertaining story now which most agree is ZW.
