Hart of Dixie Review: Choices, Cake Knives and Fresh Starts

by at . Comments

"I Fall to Pieces" opened right where Hart of Dixie Season 1 left off. The next morning, to be exact. The last thing we saw was that Zoe and Wade had finally consummated their relationship and George ended his engagement with Lemon in the most dramatic way possible.

When Zoe awoke the next day, she saw a sleeping Wade Kinsella and George calling her cell phone. Zoe was definitely conflicted and so she went straight to the person who had been her best friend in Bluebell, Lavon. Obviously not having changed, Lavon laughed at the fact Zoe had slept with Wade, while most of us were saying, "finally!"

Rivals No More?

For most of the opening season I adored Wade and all of his immaturity - but here I can tell you that I definitely did not. I have always wanted Wade and Zoe to be together but after the way he acted, I'm not so sure I feel that way anymore. I guess in a positive light I look forward to watching Wade grow up a bit this season and maybe then I'll change my mind back.

For now, though, I can't say I don't enjoy the "friends with benefits" thing they have going on right now.

Then there was the charming and adorable George, who was very open with his feelings about Zoe in the sweetest way. It was so adorable that it had me thinking that George definitely needed to slow down. Thank goodness Zoe came to that same conclusion at the end of the episode. I completely agree that George needs to date around because Zoe deserves to be more than a rebound.

One thing that I absolutely loved about this episode was the introduction of the newest character, Ruby. Her first comment was about Zoe's shoes and as a fellow fangirl I can definitely agree that Zoe has the best footwear in Bluebell. It was at that moment I knew I'd like Ruby. I hope we continue to see more of a friendship between Ruby and Zoe because she needs a good "girlfriend."

Another thing I enjoyed about Ruby was her past relationship with Lavon; I assume since she'll be staying around we will be getting more of their story.

Let me take a moment to talk about Lemon Breeland. We've only known her as George's fiancé and the crazy lady in Bluebell. Now that she is going to start redefining herself, I will stand by my season one theory that she will be one of the characters that will grow the most in this series. Some of that growth happened tonight and I loved it!

She sat down with Zoe and, even though drugged, she was able to listen to Zoe and take her advice. Lemon said she'll hate her for as long as she lives but can we all agree that their is a small possibility those two will be friends in the future?

I didn't care too much about the "hostage" situation that had the whole small town of Bluebell anxiously waiting outside Zoe's house.

Overall, this was a pretty decent season premiere. They've seemed to change the tone of the show to funnier and much lighter than season one, so far, and I'm glad. I think a tone change needed to be done. I can't wait to see how the rest of this season plays out!

@Elle: I get what you're saying with this: "Also Leila writing in Lemon just being so quickly okay with George and Zoe moving on together - it would never happen but by doing so she's giving the audience the okay to now cheer George on just as much as Wade." I'm not entirely sure I agree, though. I think it IS a conveniently quick way of getting rid of both townspeople and audience objection to G/Z and vilifying of Zoe (because OF COURSE it's that harlot's fault, right? The poor guy is never to blame in these situations.) At the same time, I actually do think that Lemon had reached her limit by this point and just wanted to be done with the whole thing. It wasn't like she was jumping with joy at the prospect of them being together; she was just trying to move on.

George and Lemon never bounced back. I love Ruby's character, we need someone to spice up little Bluebell I would love to see her and Lavon

As for all the bickering about Wade being written down, I completely disagree. Don't be fooled ladies, Wade has done more than his fair share of chasing around. I think that he had a real chance and he blew it. So what? That George entered the picture? Wade had the whole night before, but nooooooo, not one word. I think that if Wade can't say his feelings then he deserve Zoe. As for George, I've always liked him from the start, and let's be honest, he relates to Zoe much more than Wade. I honestly don't care who Zoe ends up with because as long as she's happy, but I think that in the end George and Zoe will be together. And so much for judging his actions on ditching Lemon.......Lemon only tried her hardest at the relationship only because she wanted what she wants, she's always been selfish, not once had she thought about George, all about her feelings and her thoughts and how she didn't want to move to New York....blah blah blah, after the Lavon thing, she just never bounced back! I would love to see Lavon-Ruby work out.

Oh, man! Stephanie Savage is trying to turn George and Zoe into Chair, and Wade into Dair leftovers. Oh, my, that is Steph Savage for you!

(continued..) She's done exactly what she wanted to do with her show but in the process really forced Wade's character (who has always been great) into a corner of no longer as likeable. Can't stand that she did that... all for her desire to continue on the love triangle path. :/

@T "Also have to disagree about "changing the tone" to funnier and lighter. First of all, that's nothing new, and secondly, I think they'd be much better off finding a balance" ...I completely agree with you on that T. I think it's clear that the writer and producer of the episode, Leila, got what she wanted since season one and that's a far more balanced love triangle (god help us... please cease the love triangle for good - are steady relationships not hilarious and sexy in their own right?!). Wade was clearly made into a heavily immature character this past episode and you can see the younger audience members quickly side with the good guy George instead of questioning whether leaving your fiance on the day of your wedding is truly a "grand gesture". Also Leila writing in Lemon just being so quickly okay with George and Zoe moving on together - it would never happen but by doing so she's giving the audience the okay to now cheer George on just as much as Wade. She's done exactly what she wanted to do with her show but in the process really forced Wade's character (who has always been great) into a corner of no longer as likeable. Can't stand that she did that... all for her desire to continue on the love triangle path. :/

Zoe and George need to be together! I'm hoping we'll get to see something happen between Wade and Lemon since they'll be working together now. That would be a great couple that actually challenges each other. Zoe and Wade don't seem to have a likely future together. Zoe and George are a more realistic endgame, they can move to New York and live happily ever after :)haha

she tried everything in her power to make up for her mistakes and he moves on to the next woman without giving a sh.. what that might do to lemon. How is having no decency charming and adoreable?

I love, love wade being the one calling the terms now. What began as shields up got him back in the saddle. And now that he realized that he´s not just the doctor´s entertaining device he´s enjoying that a little (too much) by playing around. Can´t blame him for that. though giving him credit for pushing zoe to a decision seems a little over the top.
Lemon, go bite ruby´s head off when you´re back on your feet. No cool kicking someone who´s already down. I instantly hated her character for that.
I hope zoe let´s go of her controlfreak issue and enjoys the ride with wade already. Because let´s be honest the only thing interesting about george tucker is being a save bet for marriage material. Other than that I think crazy earl would give a very funny wedding speech and seriously would you ever choose the tuckers for inlaws?
Well and then there´s george... yea umm.... really? Just NO! The guy ditched his fiance, they had a relationship for 15 years, on their wedding after she tried everything in her power to make up for her mistakes and moves right on to the next woman, without giving a sh.. what that might do to lemon? Dude have you no decency in you at all?

Anyone who can't see right through Wade's tough guy "I'm God's gift" act is completely clueless. He's been burned before by Zoe and now that George is back in the picture, OF COURSE he'd be put off and switch gears because he doesn't think he has a chance against George in Zoe's eyes. Even Zoe sees through his defense mechanism which is why she kept pushing the issue. George actively pursuing a relationship with Zoe the same night he called off his wedding is just ridiculous! The fact that he said it was all for her would have been more believable if the whole Lemon-Lavon thing had stayed a secret but we all know that is what catapulted everything. I like George but he doesn't know what the hell he wants in my opinion and Zoe's right--he needs time to find out who he is on his own!
