Couples Commentary: Will They? Won't They? Should They?

at . Comments

When Castle and Beckett hit the sheets - or was it the doorframe? - on the Castle season finale, fans swooned as one of the most popular will they/won't they couples on TV settled on the former: They will. They did.

Bubbling sexual chemistry is a staple of TV, but taking two characters from flirting to bedding has often met with mixed results.

Will it work out for Castle and Beckett? We'll be glued to the screen this fall to find out. Should these other teetering tandems go all the way? Or remain friends/co-workers? Weigh in now!

Tony and Ziva (NCIS) - They're more than just partners, but not quite a couple. Tony and Ziva, known as Tiva by diehard shippers, have done this dance for several seasons.

Will Tony & Ziva Ever Take The Leap?

Can the kick-ass former Mossad assassin and the quick witted ex-homicide detective figure out how to balance their work relationship with a love connection?  Will this potential couple ever deliver?

More importantly, SHOULD THEY?

Castle and Beckett (Castle) - An entire fandom could be heard screaming in delight at their TV screens last May when four seasons of love and lust culminated with a heated kiss against the door and Beckett's fingers entwined with Castle's as she led him to what we can only assume was his bedroom.

Will coupledom kill their incredible sexual tension? Or bring back the fun, flirty banter that got lost in all of the angst of season four? Castle Season 5 kicks off in September and fans are holding their breath to see what happens as Castle and Beckett start the next chapter of their story.

Jane and Lisbon (The Mentalist) - It's been four long seasons since the tortured con man met the tough but beautiful CBI agent, yet hints at any love connection have been a long time coming.

Jane & Lisbon Investigate a Surfer's Death

Jane's still emotionally traumatized after his wife and daughter's brutal murder.  Will Teresa Lisbon be the one person who can help end his torment and heal his heart?

With Jane muttering a quick "love you" before pretending to shoot Lisbon and the two holding hands at the end of last season's finale, fans have more hope for this couple than ever before.

Jess and Nick (New Girl)- There's undeniable chemistry between Jess and her snarky bartender/roommate but should their friendship take a turn to romance?

With CeCe and Schmidt taking over the will they/won't they spot at the end of season one, our guess is that fans will have to wait a while to see Jess and Nick come together but we hope it happens... some day.

Jeff and Annie (Community) -  The show may have never intended these two to be a couple but their obvious chemistry could not be denied. With three seasons of flirtations, hesitation, and jealousy behind them, SHOULD THESE TWO FINALLY TAKE THE HILARIOUS PLUNGE?

Did we forget about burgeoning couples? Vote above on the duos included and then leave a Comment below with pairings you want to see move ahead?

Michael, when you get right down to it, just about everyway a story can be told has been told. And this was probably the case even before Shakespeare. If done right, Tony and Ziva being together will not hurt the overall storyline, and might actually help it.

I just think to agent being together is a outdated form of storytelling what they could do is have Tony or Ziva Quit NCIS so NCIS fan can get what they want and Tiva fan can have what they want

@NCIS gibbs was not a agent in Life Before His Eyes he never join NCIS so he never created NCIS rule number 12

If Gibbs was so against members of the team dating then why in "Life Before His Eyes" did he imagine Tony and Kate married and having a baby.

There are angencies that accept their agents being in a romantic relationship. The CIA actually encourages it. I think Tony and Ziva will consider getting involved with each other because of Gibbs' rules. He may not be able to stop them, but they do respect them adn care about what he thinks. If they ever get together they might hope for Gibbs' blessing, but they probably won't stop just because of Gibbs. I doubt Gibbs will get rid of either of them because he likes his team they way it is. I can see Gibbs threatening to move one of them just to see if they are serious or not. In reality the only thing stopping Tony and Ziva from being together is Tony and Ziva.

@AJA I think Gibbs has got to realise that some rules are meant to be broken, morally can he keep two people apart who love each other because of rule 12, to me there is no justification for him to do so.

@AJA could not of said it better myself Ziva has never respect Gibbs She lie about Ari she lie about Michael Rinkir so if Tiva does happen it would not shock me if she lie again

@just me good comment and so use looking for the sites michael talks about he lies.

Even if there is no official rule in an NCIS handbook against dating co workers, it seems to me if Tony and ZIva had a relationship and chose to challenge Gibbs rule, although they may have a legal leg to stand on, it would be a real slap in the face to Gibbs. He has good reasons for his rules, and thus far, the team has always respected Gibbs authority. If T and Z decided to sneak around behind his back or disregard Gibbs feelings it would definitely undermine his authority and it would be pretty OOC for anyone on the team to do that. Although Ziva has at times disregarded her superiors' authority when it suited her, Tony has always been willing to follow Gibbs orders and their intent. The one grey area exception was EJ, but she was not on his team. Both teams were merely working on the same case.

Gibbs would be within his rights as a team leader to ask either Tony or Ziva to transfer to another team if they were to enter a relationship with each other. That is all he could do; he couldn't bring any pressure to have them end the relationship -- he would be overstepping his authority there (which I believe he did regarding Tony and EJ). The question at this point is whether or not he would ask such a thing of Tony or Ziva. Ten years ago, no question he would. Now? My guess is probably not. As we are coming to the end of the series in a couple of years, at which point Tony will most likely get his own team, or take over Gibbs' team upon his retirement from the field, I think the whole question will end up being moot.
