Drop Dead Diva Review: Family Ties

by at . Comments

This week's Drop Dead Diva was all about family. On "Home," to make up for the lack of interesting legal matters on last week's episode, we were treated a double doozy with two family-related cases.

Kim took on her father as a client and Jane and Grayson got involved in a family court case. Yes, it was a case heavy episode that still left a lot of room for all of the personal drama!

It's always interesting for one of the lawyers to take on a family member as a client. It throws that personal element into the mix that raises the stakes. Kim wasn't interested in seeing her father, but the second his ex employer mouthed off to him, she was on the defense and ready to throw down in court. Blood is thicker than water.

Not wanting to bother Parker with her suit, she took the case on and proceeded with business as usual. Parker ended up getting involved for two reasons:

  1. He is still missing Elisa (guest star Brandy Norwood) and their son.
  2. He does love Kim.

These two are so on and off and things got especially confusing when Parker found out that he had a seven-year-old son with his ex, but something always draws Kim and Parker back together.

With a clever realization about home decor, Kim was able to win her case. Elsewhere, Jane and Grayson were defending a teenage millionaire who wanted to file for emancipation but became part of a missing person case. Jane's case took on a lot of moral and ethical issues. Technically yes, Sam was kidnapped, but was it to save his life? Yes. Jane won her case, but in real life would this hold up?

Meanwhile, Grayson was still going strong in his quest to prove that Jane might be a reincarnated version of Deb. Now he's reading books on the subject, and even trying to provoke certain memories. That scene in the piano bar when Grayson had the song from Ghost playing absolutely broke my heart. Not only because that song is a tearjerker (sorry, Jane, I guess I'm sappy, too) but Jane just looked so completely heartbroken.

Sure, Owen is great, but Jane still has lingering feelings for Grayson. Luke is a much stricter guardian angel than Fred was, and I do miss Fred dearly. Deb may have hit the return button, but why is Jane being punished and not allowed to let Grayson know who she is? That scene was just painful.

What do you all think? Were you upset by the scene in the piano bar? Did you find this week's cases more interesting? Do you think Nikki and Stacey's bakery business is a boring storyline? (I do.) Hit the comments!

Nearly all of what you assert is sugrpisinply precise and that makes me wonder the reason why I had not looked at this in this light previously. This piece really did turn the light on for me as far as this particular subject matter goes. But at this time there is 1 issue I am not really too cozy with and whilst I make an effort to reconcile that with the actual main theme of your point, allow me see just what all the rest of the visitors have to say.Very well done.

I am sorry to see that Owen has lost so much weight and that Jane is slimming down also. There are so few shows where the main characters are not like pencils Jane and Owen were just as lovable last year when they were heavier. Why do they have to slim down? This just seems to send the same old message - you have to be thin to be good looking and find love.

Best thing on tv. Love Jane being with Owen.
How could you not love these two?
love everything about this series. Acting is
phenominal.

I know this isn't the popular opinion but I'm enjoying Luke. I never thought Fred was a good match for Jane. He was always the little brother and felt kind of submissive in his relationship with Jane. Not good Guardian material really. Plus I always felt he was very one note. More like a disney character than any of the other people on the show - except maybe Stacey which is why they were a good match I suppose. I do agree that Kim K. is really annoying. It's become a pet peeve of mine when essential characters are given to bigger name actor/actresses for ratings. I think a less known but better actress would have been a better choice as a foil for Jane and business partner for Stacey. Hopefully this won't last long.

Kim Kardashian: I never saw her show, only heard her name a few times (because I don't live under a rock). So as an unbiased viewer, I didn't find her acting horrible. She sure isn't going to win any emmy, but I thought she was pretty decent. I don't like the character the she plays though. You can tell she'll end up scamming Stacey out of all her money, she's pretty sketchy (the way she went at Jane, practically guilting her in giving the money to Stacey). I'm mildly interested in this storyline, not for the scam itself, but to see what the consequences will be. I sincerely hope Stacey won't fall once again for a guardian angel, she has already been twice through the process (before and after was send to heaven the first time). I don't know if I even want Luke to have a romantic interest (again, we've already been through that twice with Fred), although I hope that we will soon see him interact with more people than Jane.

- Jane/Greyson : Since the end of season 3, I don't want them to be together anymore. It just took so long for Greyson to begin to really fall for Jane, and it's only when he suspects she might be Deb's reincarnation. I also LOVE Owen and love the couple he forms with Jane. I just adore all their scenes together, so I really hope they'll stick together. - Luke: it's not that I particularly despice Luke, but I just miss Fred so much!! And even though I also find the character irritable, I'm at least glad they created a whole new type of guardian angel. We've already seen he handles things differently, and I'm curious to see how he's gonna meddle in Jane's life next.

Dont't care much for KK, she's just a guest star that'll leave soon. I agree with guest, she'll probably be a con-artist that steals Stacie's money.

Great episode! Heartbreaking at the end, it seems now that Greyson is pining over Jane. I'm conflicted about their storyline. I would have liked him to fall for her as Jane, but him looking for her even 3 years after she died, doesn't it prove they're soulmate? In the past 3 years, he has tried to move on too but hasn't been able to. Agree with you guys, I really miss Fred. makes I want to punch Luke in the face every time he appears on the screen.

Luckybastarda

Totally agree with Jenny. BRING FRED BACK!!!

I agree Kim Kardashin has what 4 tv shows? Why does she have to invade on this one. I won't watch this show anymore if she is going to be permanent on there.
