Revenge Review: Mutually Assured Destruction

at . Comments

Although last week's Revenge was a blast from the past, "Grief" showed how that history led to the sad and murky present.

Oh Sammy.  The moment I saw him lying in the bar I knew he was a goner. Of course he's got to be the oldest Labrador on record but I'll look past that niggling detail.

Even though I knew it was coming, Sammy's death made me cry. Such a sweet old dog. I felt for both Jack and Emily and, although I was glad they had one another, what I didn't feel was the love connection between them.

I'm sure plenty of fans will disagree with me but I've never felt the chemistry between these two characters and despite Jack's noble ways and righteous attitude, I still haven't warmed to the guy.

Surveilling a Scene

That said, my opinion of Daniel was also plummeting moment by moment. The guy went from wanting to run to Paris to get away from his lying, cheating, family to taking his rightful place at his Daddy's side. What's most disturbing was that he made that drastic change after finding out his father was involved with terrorism and framed and murdered an innocent man to take the fall.

Yeah, Daniel's becoming harder and harder to like.

I really thought Charlotte would be unconscious by the end of this episode. Her parents didn't give a damn about her therapy. Daniel seemed too wrapped up in his wedding to give his sister much attention and then she thought Declan jumped into bed with a Yonkers girl. I was far from shocked when Charlotte scored more pills. What did surprise me was that she wasn't overdosing on the floor of her bedroom by the end of the episode.

So Conrad's been shacking up with Lydia. I've wondered what happened to her after he whisked her out of the mansion. Now the question is whose side will she fall on. Will Lydia grab hold of Victoria's supposed offer of immunity or will she remain loyal to Conrad?

Loved Conrad's thoughts on Victoria in this great Revenge quote:

You look like a demonic succubus. | permalink

Not a bad description of this evil, twisted couple.

But the hero of the episode was definitely Nolan. He encouraged Jack to take the $1 million so that the Graysons would leave him alone. Then he not only jumped in at the last minute and did Emily's recon work, he also kept her from getting herself killed.

If he'd only left it at that. The moment he knocked on the door of the White Haired Man's home, I knew he was doomed. The man's a hired assassin. There's no way he wouldn't smell a con a mile off.

Nolan was so cute as he swelled with pride that he'd won Emily's favor with his exploits. As smart, rich, and powerful as Nolan is, deep inside he's still the lonely outsider looking for acceptance.

Unfortunately, it may have gotten him killed.

Being that Nolan's my favorite character and Emily's only true ally, I have to believe he's simply unconscious and not dead but what's the White Haired Man's plan? Will Nolan still be Emily's right hand man after this incident, assuming he survives? And what will Emily's reaction be when she finds out Nolan's now a target?

What's your guess as to what will happen in next week's season finale of Revenge?

I hate what they did to daniel.. they shouwed him different for a whole season.. and then change him totally in 2 min?? what a lot of crab

This show takes risks with its characters and I admire that--some shows stay in the safe zone and I hate that. I like Daniel's change especially. This is his family we're talking about, so I'm sure it wasn't easy for him to make that decision, but in the end family won. Right now, he's trying to keep the company afloat and he's on his father's side. I'm loving his character development. I also like Jack and Emily together. Sure, Jack is just a regular guy but not every character needs to be all complex. When he and Emily kissed, I believed it. I think this show knows what it's doing, and will create a believable triangle between Emily, Jack and Daniel. My least favorite couple is Declan and Charlotte--I don't like them together. Nolan--love him. He can't be dead. Nope, he can't be. Emily would be lost without him.

Great episode will Daniel turn in his father and take over the company?
Poor Sammy.Conrad and Victoria have great verbal sparrings.

I totally dislike Daniel. I feel he is simply a "rich boy" playing out his part. Nolan is one of my favorite characters, without him this show would be incomplete. Can hardly wait till next week episode to see what happens to the white haired man.

My sympathy to all of you who have lost a dog. That scene with Sammy had a lot of people in tears. Makes us appreciate our animal companions a bit more and hopefully inspires us to treat them with more kindness and patience. Looks like rescuing Nolan is not going to be easy. The white-haired man is not exactly a pushover as poor Nolan found out. He needs his bodyguard and a good security system installed in his home. The Conrad/Victoria insult banter is fun because they are so evenly matched. Rest in peace, Sammy.

Con' behind the con on him! The same with Emily...Daniel is living in her house, but she constantly closes the computer and leaves it out. If nothing else, snoopy, sleezy Ashley should be someone to be beware of.
Great review, except I thought Emily had more passion in her kiss with Jack than she ever di with Daniel! And I really liked 'Yonkers.' Can't wait to see how this all plays out next week!

The Graysons are a really twisted family, and right now, Daniel is at the top of my hate list, right next to his scumbag father! And, Victoria, you have to love her conniving evilness! She should meet Regina on OUAT... they would be truly unstoppable ...fashionably beautiful, cheated out of true love, but full of evil and vindictiveness a plenty!! Then there is Charlotte...hopefully she gets some help, but more like her mother every episode with just as sharp a tongue!
To settle a few coments...Jack, who I truly like, did not call Emily "Amanda" before they buried poor Sammy...he actually said he thought it would be Amanda there to console him thru this, but then, again Sammy never took to her like he did Emily, always finding his way to her or her house.
And, white hair man did not hear Nolan, my other love of this show, name "Em" (Emily), but did attack Nolan while his computer was open and cell on, so someone with WHMs con abilities shouldn't have to research far to know who is driving this con on him! The same with Emily always leaving hers on, especially with Daniel living with her and sleezy Ashley always snooping!
Can't wait for the season finale, but it's going to be a long summer!

the terrorists who blew up the plane, for whom Conrad laundered money and then framed David Clarke for that, identified themselves as "the Amerikhan Initiative" (maybe "Americon").That's the "Initiative" the white-haired guy works for (his not being the boss opens up future episodes of our heroine going after his bosses,I suppose).

I'm really annoyed that they're making Daniel into this idiot and forcing Jack down our throats..I HATE when shows do this trying to manipulate the viewers, as if we were so easy to convince..just like in Smash! That being said, the rest of this ep was FANTASTIC! When it finished I was screaming every swear word I know..hopfully everything will be fine with Nolan, Emily to the rescue this time! I also hope Victoria was smart enough not to hand over the real evidence, or that Emily will in fact, retrieve it from Daniel's briefcase.

i have to agree with some of the people here. the person that really should be punished is Ashley, how is it that all her betrayals get unpunished or even awarded? like her betrayal to Emily got rewarded by Victoria, and her betrayal to Victoria got rewarded by Conrad... now it looks like she is going to get a favor from Daniel...

Revenge Season 1 Episode 21 Quotes

I will never forget. I will never forgive.

For most the final stage of grief is acceptance but for me, grief is a life sentence without clemency.
