Revenge Review: Absolute Catastrophe

by at . Comments

"Absolution" flew by so quickly I've considered suing for whiplash.

Last week's Revenge episode had me thinking that Emily finding out about her father's murder was the big revelation. While it was certainly important, though, there were plenty more to follow.

We'll start with Declan and the continuation of his betrayal of Charlotte. You'd think that calling her a lying pill-popper on the stand would have been enough, but no. Declan rats her out at school too. He said it was for her own good, but I'm not convinced. Was it because he saw her taking drugs or that she was cozying up to her sleazy ex while she did them?

But it was about time Charlotte's parents started to recognize her existence again. Conrad asked Daniel to take care of his little sis and Victoria actually spent some time telling the girl about David Clarke.

Graysons in Mourning

Still, it took the charges being dropped against Daniel for them to pay any attention to their daughter. No matter what Victoria says, it still appears that Charlotte comes in second to her big brother.

Elsewhere, Nolan was holding back on Emily. I didn't see that coming but I could say that over and over again about this episode.

I loved how she walked in and surprised him just as he pulled the hidden journal out of his safe. Busted! At least she didn't hurt him. Nolan's too cute to hurt.

But not with 2002 hair. I've never been quiet about my thoughts concerning Nolan's locks, but I hate the 2002 version. Suddenly I have a whole new appreciation for those bangs.

Checking the Grayson Christmas card list, so to speak, paid off as Emily tracked down Carole Miller. No, make that Carol Thomas. Oh, wrong again, how about Aunt Carole? And again, I never saw it coming.

The best part of that reveal was how Emily reacted to it. In this Revenge quote, Nolan tried to explain…

Nolan: This is bigger to me than your revenge against the Graysons. This is my...
Emily: ... family. | permalink

Doing anything to protect one's family was a concept Emily could understand. It almost felt like it brought her and Nolan closer.

When Jack paid a visit to Emily he had me wondering what his plan was. Was he going to tell her he was on the beach that night? That the bloody hoodie was really his? That he's in love with her and not Amanda?

Well I guess we'll never know but his confession to Daniel... now that floored me. Did he do it because he had to tell somebody? Because he thought Daniel was a descent guy or was he really trying to protect Emily from her soon to be in-laws? If it was the latter then confessing all to a Grayson seemed a strange way to do it.

At least Daniel had the guts to confront his father, but then things turned sideways. Instead of lying through his teeth and covering his ass, Conrad told his son the whole truth. And in return, Daniel sided with his father.

I think I was as surprised by that as Emily was. Unfortunately for Daniel, when he doubled down on Grayson, he just put himself square in the crosshairs of Emily's plot for revenge. Before this he was just collateral damage. Almost an innocent bystander but not any longer.

Even Ashley had a few twists in store for her. First off, Victoria screwed her over when her new boss mysteriously found out that she leaked the photos of Daniel. But Ashley should have known something was coming her way when Victoria's reaction was to her resignation was this...

The Hamptons are filthy with ambitious young girls like yourself. | permalink

That said volumes about what Victoria thought of her little protege. Then Conrad offered her a luxury car and a job and she's in seventh heaven.  My guess is that Conrad's setting her up as a scape goat or he wouldn't go out of his way for her. Beware of a Grayson bearing gifts.

So with so many confession and revelations, which Revenge twist most surprised you?

Who do you think is the guiltiest Grayson?

Wow im over it - im sooo angry with that. Daniel REALLY?? thats just not logical.. the whole season they show us a nice daniel, a good boy. and then in 2min where he finds out the horrible truth he protects his dad? i mean REALLY??? this seems sooo forced, so people are against him and for emily again. Cause most people, like me, didnt think it was ok what Emily did to Daniel. So why dont we chance his whooole behave and thinking and make him evil in 1 min? A lot of bullshit that is!

I just kept saying Whoa Whoa did that just really happen?
NOlan and Aunt Carol was nice because it really did feel like nolan and emily would be closer because they understand protecting family..
I dont know what words would describe what i feel about daniel and emily.. Nice part when charlotte and victoria went to the grave.. and the rose 'someone's been here'

The thing with nolan surprised me the most, followed by jack telling daniel. I liked aunt carole, hope she makes another appearance. As for ashley, she should know better by now after all shes witnessed and heard. I really want amanda(emily) to tell charlotte, although I know she can't without raising questions, but part of me tells me that charlotte might want to help. I like that about charlotte, it gives her character spice; shes not afraid to go against the greysons, especially now that shes technically a clarke. I did like the scene at davids grave at the end, showed victorias softer side that we dont see too often. No comment on declan. However it won't let me view in the poll, so let me just say that now daniels in the lead, he chose not to do anything after he had information. However we dont exactly know what conrad told him, we are assuming out was the whole truth, it might have only been some truths spun to make him look like the victim. I dunno.....

I think Daniel siding with his dad was to show his mom that he's made his choice between his parents. He asked his mom about paying someone to beat the snot out of him to get him out of prison and she didn't deny it. That's just one of many things that he's found out about his mom. His dad, however, spilled the beans about a dark, dark secret without Daniel asking. Daniel may think his dad is the more honorable of the two (or at least the more open) and is willing to cast his lot with his dad and not his mom.

I love Jack and Emily, there seems to be more chemistry between them. I think Jack is starting to figure things out. The actor playing Daniel is sort of a flat performer, no nuances in facial movements. Nick is one of those actors who has a strong aura, just a look, smile, nods of the head. He is a better actor and should be used more often. The storyline has to be Emily and Daniel together, for a time. I think Daniel is starting to wise up to Emily the question is, will he hurt her or Jack. In order for this story to hold up Emily must truly love Jack, as it should be. I don't understand why some fans think Emily and Daniel should be in love, it wouldn't serve the storyline. The actors may be involved with each other in real life, but on screen it does not come accross. Jack and Emily have a strong performance together, so the more Jack is around the better. Daniel seems to have the potential to be as bad as Jack is good

i still have hope for daniel and emily, because i love them so much and also i really really really dislike jack
and i do agree, i think the girl who plays charlotte needs some acting lessons or something like that. did you see her threaten declan? pretty dodgy to be completely honest

Alviss: Defensive much? Most people here love Daniel.

The conflict in Emily's relationship with Daniel lies in the fact that he is genuinely a good guy. If Daniel goes down the same road his parents took, then Emily will no longer feel guilty about using him. It just makes her "master plan" that much easier to execute. I'll wait until the next episode to form an opinion on Daniel. He could have ulterior motives for standing by his father.
