Grey's Anatomy Season Finale Round Table: "Flight"

by at . Comments

Welcome back to TV Fanatic's Grey's Anatomy Round Table!

Our official review broke down last week's season finale, "Flight," in great detail. Now, TV Fanatic staff members Courtney Morrison, Sean McKenna and Christina Tran have assembled for their weekly Q&A discussion.

Read their answers below and weigh in with yours!

----------------------------------------

1. What was your favorite scene from the finale?

Courtney: How could you not pick the Mark and Lexie scene (below)? As pissed as it made me that this relationship has been built up and we have been waiting for them to get back together for a year, it was so sweet and emotional. I had been rooting for this couple for a long time and it sucks that it didn't happen, but you have to appreciate the stellar skills Eric Dane showed.

Christina: My favorite scenes are always the ones that leave me speechless and teary-eyed so I’m going with Lexie’s final moments. I could barely catch my breath as I balled my eyes out. As an older sister like Meredith, it was extremely difficult for me to watch. Sure, I’ve been rooting for Slexie since the beginning, but the thought of losing a sister left me with unstoppable tears. Mer didn’t even get to say goodbye to her little sister!

Sean: I enjoyed the call backs to the pilot episode. The show has certainly come a long way from its early days and the characters have definitely all grown up in some form or another. Great way to tie things together.

2. We knew a main character was going to die in this episode. Going in, who did you think it was going to be?

Courtney: My thoughts were on Arizona. She hasn't had too much of a story lately and her leaving would give the opening for Alex to head up the department at SGH.

Christina: April. I assumed and naively thought that it would be someone who wasn’t on the flight and just wanted it to be April.

Sean: I had a feeling it might be Lexie or Mark. I figured if they killed off April fine, but that would be an easy out death because she wouldn't have the same type of impact one of the major players would.

3. Were you surprised it was Lexie? Will you miss her?

Courtney: Somewhat surprised. I was hoping it wasn't her because I didn't want Meredith to lose another family member. I really enjoyed this character and she will definitely be missed.

Christina: Definitely! I will miss her terribly just as Mark and Meredith will miss her. I am growing immensely sad again just responding to this question. Next question, please.

Sean: Even when it was happening and I knew she was going to die, I was still a little surprised. Sure, I'll miss her and I can only imagine how next season will deal with the fallout.

4. How did this finale compare to the previous season endings?

Courtney: Ehhh... so so. Grey's finales are usually unbelievable. This one was different though. Having the contract negotiations happening made it impossible to secure the future for all of the characters so I get that it had to be left open. But it felt like the episode jumped around a little too much.

Christina: It reminded me a lot like the very first episode of Lost. In comparison to finales past, it was shocking as usual, but I simply thought it was subpar. I didn’t like the back and forth from the hospital to the woods. I must admit that I wasn’t all too pleased that it was Lexie that got the axe either. As a Slexie fan, it was incredibly disappointing and all I will remember is that we lost Lexie.

Sean: I totally agree it reminded me of Lost, but I've enjoyed other finales more. In a way it felt like the plane crash was thrown in to simply raise the dramatic stakes. It was an okay episode and it did include a huge death, but maybe because it felt split up between the woods and the hospital that it wasn't my favorite of all time.

5. Write a farewell to the departed Lexie Grey.

Courtney: Little Grey. It took you a while, but you finally found your place in the Seattle Grace family. You were a great sister and your relationship with Mark was one of real love. Your photographic memory and little bits of crazy will surely be missed. Sadly, your bangs will not be. RIP Lexie.

Christina: Little Grey, we will always miss you. You had an amazing photographic memory. You already were a fantastic surgeon. You were also an incredible sister and aunt. Most importantly, you loved. Mark knew it, and we have always known it. SG-MW just won’t be the same without you!

Sean: Lexie Grey, you will be missed. There was so much life and charisma in you that it was infectious. No one will be the same without you and no one will ever forget you. You will be in everyone's minds and hearts.

What do you think? Did you expect it to be Lexie? How will the characters respond going forward? Will anyone else be lost in Grey's Anatomy Season 9? Share your responses in the comments below!

1. I'd go with Mark and Lexie, "Meant To Be" moment. So intense and sad. 2. I honestly thought it would be Arizona or April or Derek. 3. Surprised? Hell, I was shocked. I never ever ever thought they would kill Lexie. She was ma fav, I really really really liked her. I am so sad and angry. Loved her and Mark together and the creator gave "Meant To Be" thing. How sad :( Of course, I will miss her like anything. I think a part of me will miss her always and keep cursing creators for doing that too Lexie. 4. Well this was nice and shocking finale. But my all time fav is Season 2 finale, then S06 then S08 and then S05. Season 6 finale was out of the world and just so so so so amazing. Season 6 and Season 2 finale tops ma list and then comes this season 8 one. 5. Lexie aka Little Grey, I have exactly no words and I am pathetic when it comes to say about someone I love. I am not at all "THE TALK" kind a person. So here it goes, I will miss you Lexie Grey. You were amazing, beautiful and smart. I still wish that you would live with your love of life, Mark. But that is not going to happen, so RIP Lexie. Love you and Miss you.

Okay everybody. Close down your petitions because it's not gonna work. One of our favorite characters died and she ain't comin' back! They aren't going to try to work the ghost routine again because a lot of fans hated it and Shonda has mentioned that. I doubt they'll make all of this a dream sequence because that ticked off the Dallas fans and they had an uproar. AND, there are signed contracts for the remaining original six. They aren't going anywhere either. I don't think money was the issue for Dempsey. He wants to race cars, period. Why not stick around for a lightened work load with a guaranteed paycheck? As much as it sucks right now, I'm sure that Shonda and the other writers will work out some great stuff for us next season. We just have to wait until September.

1.When Mer was worrying that Der had died too & Der appeared saying he'd heard her shouting & then he collapsed. Relief that MerDer were reunited in the woods, but not at home with Zola. A visit from Der's mom has gotta be a must happen at the beginning of S9.
2.I was mislead initally but my final choice was Lexie.
3.No surprise.Lexie was initally interesting cos Mer didn't want to know her.Lexie's death is gonna affect Mer7Mark profoundly. But I didn't enjoy the way Lex only operated with Der all the time in S8. But IMO Shonda knew she was preparing for Lexie to be written out some time ago.
4.The promos & publicity meant GA fans knew this was gonna be hard to watch with a character being killed off. I need some happiness in S9, PLZ!

WOW! This is so stupid I am so mad every season the kill somebody off! Why would they kill LEXIE! It is going to be so hard to watch the show now because Mark is going to be so depressed and if Derek dies I will never watch the show again! One reason was because of Meredith is going to be so sad and Zola will not have a father it will just be to sad to watch!

http://www.petitionbuzz.com/pe... For all that's good in the world lets save Lexie. We as fans can change what Shonda Rhimes messed up on. If we aren't happy with Lexie dieing ABC need to have a very serious talk with Shonda Rhimes and have her fix it. if we keep telling write and sign petition we can bring her back. Are opinion matters

Oh & Shonda Rhimes, if you happen to read this, which I doubt but anyway..shut down Private Practice, so you can focus on writing brilliance for Grey's again. Bring Kate Walsh (Addison) back to Grey's Anatomy for Mark. Find Cristina a not-so-demanding man who's on the same page as her & Let Kate H come back for Karev since he's somewhat a nice, decent human being now and end the show on a nice high note.

I am also going to give props to Jessica Capshaw for coming into the show and making it more interesting at a time when stupid ghosts were roaming the halls. I always loved Callie, but I loved her even more after Arizona came along, because she matured, and the two of them together, helped Mark mature too. Owen is a cheater, so I don't really have anything good to say about that character but whatever. Here's to hoping Season 9 will be great and everyone LIVES! because noone deserves to die tragically just because they have annoying habits, or are gay or they're not the man of your dreams and/or are taking screen time from your favorite character, right?

I really hate when people say that someone else should have died in Lexie's place, it's ignorant & ridiculous. Why did anyone have to die really? I am willing to bet the cast cutting happened because the mcdreamies wanted tons of money to pay off their ego's to return. As for the storylines not being as good as once were, I really think Shonda Rhimes is more interested in getting another hit show off the ground to even pay the attention that she once did to Grey's Anatomy. Which I think is a bad move on her part. Since I am on a rant, I may as well add that Chyler Leigh could act circles around Ellen Pompeo. Meredith is the most annoying character on the show as far as I am concerned, always playing the damsel in distress, ditz that panics. Cristina makes her likeable. Cristina, Callie & Bailey are the real deal ladies as well as the best actresses on the show, who've been carrying the show since the beginning. I am also going to give props to Jessica Capshaw for coming into the show and making it more interesting at a time when stupid ghosts were roaming the halls. I always loved Callie, but I loved her even more after Arizona came along, because she matured, and the two of them together, helped Mark mature too. Owen is a cheater, so I don't really have anything good to say about that character but whatever. i think that they are aiming for 10 seasons and shonda seems to be setting it up for closure.. it makes since that they all stay through fellowships and then end with everyone going separate ways to be an attending. we have already seen them grow soo much, might as well finish it up. as for lexie, i really didnt want it to be her but it was really the only one who could affect everyone like that... RIP little Grey. chyler will be missed as an actor.

4.I think it was too much ! And bits of it were overplayed ! Particulary Ellen Pompeo's part was very very poorly executed ! 5. Lexie, you've been one of my favourite characters since day one, I loved your optimism, you gave a breath of fresh air to the show with your nevroses and craziness. You were a great friend, sister, aunt and surgeon ! RIP
