Once Upon a Time Review: Destiny Calls

by at . Comments

In last week's episode of Once Upon a Time, we learned who August was NOT. Here, we finally discovered the true identity of August Booth: is no longer just "The Stranger," he's also Pinochio come to life.

But with one proviso: he'll remain a real boy... er... man, only if he is brave, truthful and unselfish. Well, now we know what that pain in his leg is whenever he lies, or do we?

I honestly thought that was August's trump card, that when he showed Emma his leg she'd begin to believe. Unfortunately, August saw his limb turn to wood but Emma saw no such thing. Was that because there's no magic in Storybrooke or because Emma was in complete denial about her destiny?

In the fairy tale world we were transported back to the moment the magic wardrobe was created and it was great to see those dramatic scenes of Emma's birth that started the show so many months ago.

Tony Amendola as Geppetto

I couldn't blame Geppetto for being a bit selfish. He was trying to save his son but in doing so he linked August's fate with Emma's. The longer she resists her place as curse buster, the harder this will be on August. What happens if he continues to turn back into a puppet. Will those in the know see it happening but those who can't see the magic simply be watching him die?

August might be highly motivated but Emma's a born cynic. I can't imagine what it will take to change her mind if she can't actually see the magic. In this Once Upon a Time quote she was pretty blunt in her reply to August:

August: You're our only hope.
Emma: Then you're all screwed. | permalink

That Emma now wanted Henry as her son was a huge step for her but to take him and run? That just seemed reckless. What's her plan and what happens if she and Henry actually leave Storybrooke?

Across town, Mary Margaret told off Regina but also forgave her, which baffled me until she explained.

Mary Margaret: Your life must be filled with such incredible loneliness that your only joy comes from destroying everyone else's happiness. | permalink

She's right in that Regina's existence is sort of sad and pathetic but it also makes her dangerous.

David was Regina's knight in shining armor when her car broke down. Ummm... did he not know that she set up Mary Margaret for murder? I suppose if Mary Margaret wasn't speaking to him perhaps not. That's the only explanation I could come up with for him being so cordial.

Thankfully he only took Regina up on her lasagna and not her offer of seduction because that would have ruined the character entirely. But if he's considering Regina a new friend that could put him on a treacherous path, especially since David known for being clueless.

Little by little, the list of people in Storybrooke who know there is a curse continues to grow: Regina, Mr Gold, Henry and August. Who will be able to convince Emma of her destiny? With two episodes left, what's your guess for the future of Storybrooke?

If Regina is okay with having the Sheriff and Katherine both killed for her agenda of screwing with Emma, why not try and get Emma killed herself? @Alex - It may be that in Storybrooke, Regina can't resort to magic to get rid of Emma. Notice she tried to get Mr. Gold to do the deed. If she can't get someone else to do it, she has to get down & dirty and do it physically herself, like us mere mortals; which could be too much for her. Emma is younger with the shoulders of a linebacker. So, I'd favor her in a physical fight. If Regina wants her dead, she'll have to poison her, use a gun, set a fire, or set off an explosive device.

By the way, does anybody know what happened to the preview where Emma was about to kill Regina, who seemed tied to a tree? Is that gonna be a dream sequence or something? Cause we didn't see it on this episode...

I noticed a lot of people are starting to get impatient with Emma. I don't blame you, but my advice is keep watching at least until the finale (only 2 more episodes) you won't be disappointed. I saw a very spoilery video on set, and let me tell you, it's big. I won't tell, but let's just say that the storyline is going to advance big time. My guess is, you'll be sorry if you miss the finale.

As for why Rumple would want to break the curse, my guess is he's hoping it will help find his son. Like when Emma arrived, things started to change. August felt it, so maybe Rumple thinks his son will come back like August did. And when his son is found, he peobably wants to go back to FTL. But that's just my guess.

If Regina is okay with having the Sheriff and Katherine both killed for her agenda of screwing with Emma, why not try and get Emma killed herself? I don't think she was okay, up until now, with killing Emma. Her weakness is Henry. She knows it would hurt him and she would lose him forever if anything happened to Emma. But now it seems like she's losing Henry anyway, so she might try to kill her or get rid of her.

I just have one question. When is Season Two?

If Regina is okay with having the Sheriff and Katherine both killed for her agenda of screwing with Emma, why not try and get Emma killed herself?
Because she did not see Emma as a big threat and thought she could manipulate her as sheriff to do stuff for her, in a way to increase her influence over mr.Gold. And if Pinocchio is still subject to the conditions the fairy put on him (turning to wood) in Storybrooke, then Rumple should be subject to the conditions of his own curse (i.e. the dagger-mind control thing)
Mind-control stuff seems to be more like a side-deal that requires conjuring magic. And Dagger still can kill rumple(the main condition). Its just that anything else can too now. :)

I ask this question a lot, but I cannot stress it enough. If Regina is okay with having the Sheriff and Katherine both killed for her agenda of screwing with Emma, why not try and get Emma killed herself? She knows nothing about Emma's true nature. To her, Emma is just some punk who came to Storybrooke and wants to steal her son. Regina should have offed her ever since Emma stirred up so much problems in the town. It makes no sense for her to not try and kill Emma when we already know she isn't above murder. And if Pinocchio is still subject to the conditions the fairy put on him (turning to wood) in Storybrooke, then Rumple should be subject to the conditions of his own curse (i.e. the dagger-mind control thing). The show is very inconsistent with how they portray magic in Storybrooke.

What did the fairy have to do with it's creation?
From how it seems, Blue Fairy is connected to a lot of events surrounding the curse, she, intentionally(most likely) gave the idea of it to Rumple. Why? No one knows, but I would not be surprised on if Blue Fairy is the true mastermind behind it all, having manipulated Rumple into manipulating Regina into enacting the curse.

A land without magic (which just happens to be where Rumple's son went).... Perhaps it's implied that ours is the only one without magic?
Yes apparently its the only world inaccessible through the hat or other methods. Well not till Emma actually MADE a hat in this world. Also, who came up with the exact idea of the curse? Was it Rumple's curse...
Yes the general idea seems to be that rumple created the curse as well as all the conditions needed to break it(getting snowing together, etc). As for why eh wants to break it? no idea.
