Gossip Girl to End With a "Gasp" Monday

at . Comments

Much has already been said about Gossip Girl's 100th episode Monday night.

Heck, we're starting to wonder what hasn't been said about the milestone.

It’s Blair’s wedding! Georgina’s back! Love triangles/squares galore! So many Upper East Side events are just waiting to come to a head, for better or worse. But as we learned yesterday, one big twist remains a big mystery.

That bombshell, apparently comes at the very end.

“You have to see [the last few minutes] to believe them. I really think they will take people’s breath away,” EP Joshua Safran says. “Someone asked on Twitter, ‘Will we smile or cry at the end of the episode?’"

"And I said, ‘It will be more like a gasp.’”

Daniel, Serena

Executive Producer Stephanie Savage, who we can only hope played a major role in crafting the upcoming installment, explains that the final moment was something that “had to happen” in the 100th episode.

“That’s one of the fun things about having a mature show in Season Five, you feel like you can really have some fun. In the first couple of seasons, you feel like you have to keep certain things very guarded and protected because the hope is that you’ll have to make them last a long time,” she says.

Safran adds: “What we can say is why we made that decision will become clear with future episodes because, obviously, you will learn more about why that has happened, how that has happened. You see, it was such an easy decision ... It wasn’t something we belabored over or had long discussions about. It really wasn’t.”

“Obviously [the end] changes things. And what happens in the episode for Blair, Dan, Chuck, and Serena will become a whole new world for them. Obviously, we pushed the 100th episode as a special episode."

"A huge wedding, a royal wedding - it's a big episode. But it’s also the 13th episode of the season. So, the season arc does continue. The 100th is a turning point, connected to everything happening before.”

What do you think goes down at the end of the wedding-themed extravaganza to come? What could shock us at this point? Sound off on where you see the show heading - Monday and beyond - in the comments!

oh my GOD! its happening the dair fever its coming true! we've waited long enough please dont stop the heat..

loves the twists -- reminded me of the old GG. don't get nate and lola plot -- WTH when did they happen? DAIR ALL THE WAY!!!! Chuck was great though!!!!

I think G. just hacked GG. And for the end, yessss I hope DAIR really happens this time !!! At last some witty, healthy, COOL love.

Georgina as Gossip Girl is dumb. But, it gives the group a chance to discover it and bring her down. Unless there's a lame swerve. Hope Dair works out. Chair is played out and too unhealthy. I'm glad they had Serena name Blair's fear, which is a better reason to avoid Chuck than God.

i cant believe it.... no dair its not happennnn !!!!! it should be chairrrrrrr

the wedding episode was excellent I loved it I can't believe Louie tricked Blair into going through with the wedding and I loved the ending when she ran off with Dan and I am so glad she found out that Dan actually wrote the vows not Louie can't wait for next week's episode excellent.

Blair is the epitome of a dark character with a pretty smile; not grey, but dark. Could she change? Sure, just like Chuck did (tuck away the evil until it's needed). But ultimately she's not good; she's Georgina with more friends. Serena, conversely, is 'good' (as good as they get on this show), and yet Dan was suspicious of Serena ALL the time. Maybe Dan's love for Serena just wasn't that strong, or he doesn't have that much self-confidence, but the problems he'd have with Blair would be Serena x 1000. Or, as I like to call it, Good TV, LOL!

@Dr. Holland The handling of Jack/Blair always annoyed me. I thought there could've been more fallout from that & a legitimate way to stretch out the C/B relationship. I always hated how C was supposed to accept the whole thing like it was no big deal. Though you're right- it doesn't excuse his many transgressions. I liked that GG portrayed grey characters in the earlier seasons. Now they are not so much "grey" as they are just continually flip flopping between "good" & "bad". As for Blair, I'm not sure if she is "good" or "bad" or a "grey character" so much as she is just an idiot.

@AintBornTypical- "Because love can't be this evil. It just can't be. Call me an old fashioned romantic." However flawed GG is, and illogical it's become, in a way I appreciate that the series tried to show a darker relationship, b/c they do occur in real life. I would never want to be involved in something as toxic as myself but I do believe that being a screwed up person & having the capability to love aren't mutually exclusive. Thus I think love can manifest in ugly ways. I really like the discussion of P&P & all the opinions about nature of love its brought out.

Safran has repeatedly said this episode is about paying homage to the first 99 episodes, so I think the twist will definitely be a big reveal from the past. It'd be interesting if Louis were the father of Georgina's baby. I would be more inclined to think it would have something to do with a main character. Maybe Serena had a baby that year she was gone after she slept with Nate, although I suppose that wouldn't be overly creative since they've already done the whole secret baby storyline with Lily and Rufus.
