TV Fanatic Staff Selection, Take 5: Chair for Best Teen Couple!

at . Comments

Welcome to the latest opportunity for a TV Fanatic staff member to defend one of our Best Teen Couple nominees. If you missed previous editions, so far...

Now, it's up to Leigh Raines to pull up a Chair. Take it away, Leigh, and best of luck...

Who is the best teen couple on television, this website is asking? Sorry, Forwood fans, but the answer is clear.

Look, I’m an adult, so I’m not going to sit here and say that Blair has never had chemistry with another person. Yes, even Lonely Boy got some face time, but - with apologies to Dair supporters - I just feel more of a friendship vibe between those two.

So let’s agree to disagree and let me preach to all you Chair fiends out there. I need your voting to go VIRAL. Let’s face it, Blair Waldorf doesn’t settle for second or third place. Therefore, I present to you a love letter to a relationship that’s five years in the making:

The Chair defense rests.

Dear Chair,
In the beginning, you entertained us with a friendship fueled by a mutual love for schemes and takedowns. Then, a certain champagne-doused evening, with a striptease at Chuck’s burlesque club, led to hot virginity-losing limo sex. Not even Blair’s attempt at confession could put the fire out that sparked between you two that night (twice, if I recall correctly.) Since then it’s been magnetic, electrifying, bewitching, tantalizing, scintillating and whatever other adjective you want to throw my way.
I’m not going to lie and say these past few years have been the smoothest ride, but then again nobody ever said a great love was easy. They just said it was worth it. So what if it took you guys a few years to say those three words? What was that Chuck said during his best man speech at the end of season one? Oh yes, the importance of perseverance.
I can’t give you up, because you two can’t give each other up. Chuck, I blubbered like a baby when you showed up at Blair’s, crying after your father’s funeral and she held your hand all through the night. When you wanted to lose yourself around the world or jump off of a building, who saved you? Blair. Against everything in her being, Blair met you at that Paris train station to stop you from running away. That was a beautiful scene.
Blair, you two may have not been together when you didn’t get into Yale, but Chuck knew he couldn’t let you spiral with scum like Carter Baizen. He applied to Columbia without you knowing. He reminded you when you were floundering at NYU that he wasn’t Chuck Bass without Blair Waldorf. Then, there was that time he took a bullet to protect the ring he hoped to give to you one day.
This week's ending scene - with Chuck’s overdue apology - probably sealed the deal for me. Blair, you want to love Louis, but love isn’t something that can be forced. Chuck, your apology might be too little too late, but it shows you’re growing into a better man.
You were both too immature, conniving, and narcissistic to be together in the past. That’s why it didn’t work. But I, like so many of your viewers, know that you two are end game. So Chuck, could you please go retrieve that gorgeous Harry Winston rock and save Blair from the dullest Prince there ever was? Let’s get this show on the road kids. As Blair herself said at the end of season four: “The great loves are the crazy ones.” And you two are certifiably, undeniably and perfectly crazy... for each other.

That would be one of my wishes for their reunion. I love the idea of them finally realizing how happy they can make each other. I do think it has to come into play as one of the reasons they reunite. Chuck can truly make Blair happy because he accepts and admires every aspect of her. Whether light, dark, or in-between Chuck understands and acknowledges every shade of Blair, and instead of chastising or judging her more darker attributes, he sympathizes and realizes no one is perfect. Blair has trouble learning to accept and forgive herself for past mistakes. She has yet to learn that perfection is an impossibility and stumbles are only natural in life. As vigorous as she tries to straighten out the crinkles within her life, a seemingly smooth and flawless future is something no human can hold within their grasp.  Humphrey may understand Blair intellectually, but it’s Chuck Bass that understands the deep inner workings of her mind.  He knows all her dreams, and aspirations, and can tell right away when she’s pretending. Blair's journey and struggle is about loving herself for who she is and becoming comfortable being none other that Blair Waldorf, ultimately a person who occupies light, but still has the occasional darker traits shine through to the surface. I believe she can achieve this goal faster with the aid of Chuck. He can help her realize that the end of the day she is an ultimately good person. He has firsthand experience with juggling good and bad which was shown through his brief transformation into Henry Prince and his belief that no one could truly love him. Since he deals with the same struggles in his life they can work to help each other with each of their problems. Blair is able to make Chuck believe he IS someone worthy of love while Chuck hopefully can help Blair learn to love herself. I see the knowledge and arrival of her baby will bring Chuck back to her and ultimately have him help and aid her. Meanwhile, leading her towards self acceptance.

Love chair.

@Maribells: after reading all your comments, I do really agree with what you say about Blair and Chuck and your perception of the show. I wouldn't turn on the TV to watch a reflexion of an average couple, and yet not even, Dan and Blair are no more than friends. The only thing we can recognise them is the ambiguity Dan is experiencing in this feelings since he has a crush for Blair (a crush that she has the good taste to not reciprocate). Anyway, Blair and Chuck are epic. Most probably that in reality their story wouldn't turn the same way (and if everything that happened to the characters in GG hapened to a same bunch of people in reality, that would be surprising). But here we are in a show. Beside one has to be blind to think that DB has a better magic than CB. Ed and Leigh really have a special thing on screen every single time they interact. None of the other confrontation have the same electricity.

Megan..i think i didn't say a bad thing about Chair here..
i'm DB fans now.yes (you can see in my pict).but in season 1 and 2 i love Chair..and i know this article is good..i just suggest about Chair picture..why DB article use 3 picture and Chair just 1 video..i don't know if you like piano sex more than train scene..that's just a suggestion. i feel bad about how the staff here realese the article.they change..and none of chair or dair get "Take 1" to avoid ship war. fine.i'm sorry.peace.

Lolita, you seem like a bitter DB fan, really. And talk about the pot calling the kettle black, why are you here advocating DB on a CB article? As usual, it's DB fans trying to play the victim when they do this and worse everywhere else. Chuck and Blair are doing really well on the poll, killing DB, and this is a better write up than the DB one because, well, Chuck and Blair are a better couple. Go back to the DB article if you love them so much and please stop whining because you don't like Leigh's amazing write up. You guys astound me with your endless hypocrisy.

i'm sorry..why this article didn't put any picture of Chair epic moment from season 1? why use piano sex? i thought that's mean hate sex..or can take picture from season 4, just take the train scene..i love that scene..and it's absolutely epic. i don't know why but i feel this looks pathetic.. first Dair article didn't put any "Take" from the title..and now they put "Take 3" and for Chair "Take 5" looks like Tvfanatic doesn't want to get biased from making article..and about contest video..looks like the staff said "Dare to Dair" and chair fans comment like this site is ddairshipper..and staff would say "Dair for now, but we will make another round for another ship too. Chair. next time" for the next time,,how about not making any best couple poll..or poll about who's the best man for Blair Waldorf..or anyone..this war ship should end immediatly before turn to war world 4.

Go Leigh! Chuck and Blair are my favorites!

Bland fan (both of you) DB are a typical teen romance, not Chuck and Blair. I laugh everytime someone says that CB are. Truly hysterical. Why do you think CB were in Entertainment Weekly's top 3 of the year? Why are they recognized as a great pairing of all the couples to be on tv? It's because they are original. Why would I want to watch a "realistic" pairing that watches movie (oops, not anymore, though), eats pizza (oh, they don't anymore), and probably braids each others hair. You guys are jealous because you know who will end up together. It's written in a simple 1 minute scene from Monday night. And @wow why are you watching this show at all when you know it's always going to end in Chuck and Blair? DB fans, you're attempts at your couple sounding great bore me to death. Much like your couple.

Thank-you Maribells for saying pretty much exactly what I wanted to only better. And Lol at the husband comment. It's like you are in my brain!

But you are ok with underage drinking, threesomes, and hazing? It's Gossip Girl people, not the Brady Bunch. Chair are DRAMA, the show is a DRAMA. I watch it for DRAMA. To me Dair is intelligent comedic releif. If this were a comedy, I would be all over them, but it's not.

And who am I? That's one secret I'll never tell ... You know you love me. XOXO, Gossip Girl

Gossip Girl

[to Jenny] That's the thing. You need to be cool to be queen. Anne Boleyn thought only with her heart and she got her head chopped off. So her daughter Elizabeth made a vow never to marry a man. She married a country. Forget boys. Keep your eye on the prize, Jenny Humphrey. You can't make people love you, but you can make them fear you. For what it's worth, you're my Queen. I choose you.
