Come on...I did it coming, that Gellar was all in Travis' head. This reviewer's main point was that Gellar wasn't real, and so we were "duped". The reviewer forgot one very important fact, Harry isnt real either, he is Dexter's dark passenger and Gellar is Travis' dark passenger. They did not really trick us, I saw it coming because no one but Travis have ever seen Gellar and when Dexter said that the only difference between his and Travis' dark passenger is Gellar can be killed. There were alot of other hints too. However, I do wonder if Travis know that Gellar is all in his head.

@Sarah22841: This show is called Dexter. Grey's Anatomy is not called "Izzie." This wasn't some small plot point, this was the ENTIRE basis for the season.
Seriously, what else should I focus on? The Quinn/Batista feud? The even more obvious reveal of the Deputy Chief?
I like Deb in therapy, I'll gladly admit that. But I wasn't focusing on some unimportant tidbit here; I was giving my opinion on the driving storyline of the season, the only one that actually means anything... unless you think Quinn hooking up with an ugly stripper is anything except filler because Michael C. Hall can't be in every scene.

yeah. but for me there was no tension the entire episode because it was SO fucking obvious at this point, which kinda ruined it.

I was shocked at the turn in the plot but a lot of things doesnt make sense...for example, how did Travis knock himself out at the school? There are too many things that couldnt of happened that happened which didnt and could never make sense!!! I may not of been paying that much attention so could someone please explain it to me??
I Love Dexter and have been following it since the start and was a bit iffy about this season when it stared but cos i am a fan i gave it the benefit of the doubt and watched it weekly. I do agree with this season being the weakest with the least amount of trade mark Dexter kills though. I hope they pick up their game for the next 2 seasons of Dexter thats just been confirmed

Dexter has always been so fictitious that whatever they do, its never gonna be believable. That's what Dexter has always been about.
In spite of that they have gone ahead and picked a theme which is a lot different from the rest of the seasons and I did find it refreshing. There was a lull in the middle but I think this twist does give me something to look forward to. I didn't see it coming!
Although I don't buy Dexters excuse for taking the law into his own hands. Getting rid of somebody else's Dark Passenger is not gonna help him get rid of his own and become a better father. Come on! How!

I saw it coming, but that doesn't make the Travis/Gellar scenes any less 'real'. The events still happened in his mind, in much the same way the Dexter/Harry scenes happen in Dexter's mind. It was definitely telegraphed, so it wasn't much of a shock (unlike the Walking Dead mid-season finale tonight), but the split personality bit is still legitimate psychological drama.

Honestly, you say that the twist in the sixth sense wasn't shocking but I called that twist as well and that was when I was 9. I remember watching and I thought it would have been crazy if the the fact that he can talk to dead people meant that he might actually be communicating with a dead Bruce Wills. Although this twist was significantly obvious from the restaurant scene in episode 4, I am glad they didnt push it more than this, I do think it is interesting though that Travis didnt know Gellar was dead and he might have killed him (based on the promo) and basically went into shock creating this alternate persona which is why he doesnt remember things he did when he was the Gellar persona. Also one last thing, Gellar was real so I dont get your statement about him being real???? And I know plenty of people who didnt expect the twist, I even refrained from telling them because I did that to one person and as soon as I told him he realized it made so much sense.

I liked the twist and I am one of those who did not see this coming. Like Zev, I was enjoying the story and not analyzing the DDK as much as others. This is the first time I come here, maybe people saw it coming because had seen others comment on it before.
The reason why I came here looking to see if anyone saw what I did not like on this episode. Did anyone feel the episode was soo diferent from others? The editing, sound, cameras, etc. I didnt like it, many scenes seemed unedited to me. A lot of short scenes made it seem like they were rushing. Whats up with the Batista-Quinn fight? Quinn just gets mad out of nothing? There were no previous scenes showing him get mad.
The take where Batista's sister and the intern are having sex was also new and weird...

I didn't really see the twist with Gellar coming, but I hadn't spent a whole lot of time thinking about it either. No, the "twist" that was obvious and predictable was that Travis was not nearly as innocent (well, as innocent as an accessory to murder can be) as Dexter thought he was. Let's see. Dexter tries to connect with someone who already is/will become a serial killer, and he eventually has to put his friend/lover/brother/etc. on his table. Isn't this the M.O. of almost every Dexter season? Frankly, I was relieved that this wasn't the case with Brother Sam, as I was so conditioned to this form of storytelling that I assumed he was secretly evil as well. Honestly, I thought Dexter's relationship with Brother Sam was by far the most interesting subplot of the season. It's too bad that it didn't last very long. I would have been interested in seeing what Brother Sam's ongoing positive influence on Dexter would have had on his life. Oh well.

the irony of this review is that i predicted the "surprise" at the end of "the sixth sense" before i saw the movie...and without knowing there was a twist ending...
not saying the latest season of "dexter" is amazing by comparison. but hey, it's not like the writers haven't given enough of a reason for dexter's inconsistent behavior.
all in all, i completely understand the why of his sloppy work and desire to rush to conclusions. it's not like he's doing those things for no reason, or that he suddenly became stupid. of course it's out of character, but that is the point, part and parcel. i mean, that's one of the things that made season four so amazing...that dexter was allowing his emotions and his desire to be human to put him in compromising situations (i.e. befriending the mitchells, not killing trinity as soon as he had the chance, etc.).
not comparing season six to season four in quality, though — don't get me wrong. what i'm getting at, though, is that things folks a

I saw this coming from a mile away (as most people did), though two factors in that scene saved it for me:
1. The fact the Travis has Gellar's body in cold storage. I thought that was weird and unexpected.
2. The moment where Travis picks up the sword with a completely deranged look on his face. Legitimately creepy.

Oh there was plenty of evidence and it was blatantly obvious where it was heading. In short they were very similar.
Dexters relationship with his sister and Travis had a sister and the feeling both had for their sisters was perfectly obvious.
Dexter with his father and Travis with his teacher, it just made sense to me that Travis also had an imaginary "friend".
Travis and Dexter both appeared to be what they were not.
I saw that about ep3 and it was dead easy to spot it.

I couldn't agree more.. I could have wrote this same review because I have been ranting about this to my boyfriend for the past 20 mins. We called it from the 1st episode and I was hoping it wasn't true because of how obvious it was. At first we only guessed because it was similar to the relationship dexter has with his imaginary father then as it went on there were other clues like no one else spoke to him or looked at him, he appears outside travis's sisters home randomly all the time, and he remains out in public even though he is wanted. I guess if you never think about it you're not on the look out and don't think twice about what goes on. I expect better especially from a show known to have great plot twists.

You're wrong about this. I'm a lot smarter than you and I didn't see it as an obvious twist. There was no evidence to support the idea before. Sure, it was a possibility, but there was no evidence. So, yeah, it works. You're wrong about The Sixth Sense, too. Why? Because even though Bruce Willis' character is real, the movie still breaks down because the psychiatrist we thought the mother was consulting to help her son's known problem couldn't be seen by her - and so she actually took no action at all.

I am trying to understand how this is in fact different than 6th sense.
In no way were the scenes with Geller that could not have held up if Geller was alive. If Geller was alive he could have been the one pulling the strings and Travis just acting out what was told. Geller's being dead is not some great scheme to mislead the viewer, it is supposed to have a surprise element just like 6th sense.
I get that you may have predicted this and it might not have been well written to hide the possibility, but really someone explain to me why this is different from the 6th sense. they seem exactly the same to me.

Noo.......... I've been praying for that to not be real - the Geller does not exist theory. Watched the first four minutes of Dexter and came on here to check the reviews. No. Just no.
Too depressing. Don't think I can bring myself to watch the next 49 minutes. Almost like a waste of 49 minutes of my life.

I think the one thing this season has dropped the ball (not sure if this was intentional or unintentional), but Dexter has done very un-Dexter like things in that he is not his normal, cautious and careful self. The past Dexter would have not made those contacts with Travis so early and in such open areas. He would not have let Jonah just walk, would not have drowned Nick in the ocean, would not have killed that first guy with a mascot mask on. He would have tailed Travis some more before going to kill him, to make sure he was the one - and in this tailing, I'm sure he would've found out that Travis was crazy. Maybe this whole instance makes Dexter realize that he needs to be more careful and certain - this would make these careless actions more acceptable to the plot in my opinion.
One other thing, since "everyone" except me saw the Gellar twist coming... what do you think is up with Louis the intern?
