NBC Cancels The Playboy Club, Picks Up Pair of Sitcoms

by at . Comments

The Playboy Club has served its last scantily-clad drink.

NBC canceled this controversial drama after it debuted to five million viewers and dropped considerably since; the most recent installment netted just 3.4 million households. Reruns of Prime Suspect will air Mondays at 10 p.m. on NBC until it decides what else to do with that timeslot.

Meanwhile, the network has gone in the opposite direction regarding two sitcoms: Both Up All Night and Whitney have been granted full-season orders.

Said NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt: "We're thrilled with the creative direction of both shows as well as the potential for them to continue to build loyal audiences over the coming months. We're proud of all of the producers, writers, actors, and directors who have worked so hard to bring these shows to life."

WHAT THE HELL .... I'm a mother of 2 LOVED this show it was going somewhere. My husband and I both watched it. Please tell me another channel will pick this up! I just got done telling my mother and grandmother about it and they both agree it was worth watching there where even hooked! Everyone is doing reality , cops, medical! Everyone knows anything Mob has a chance.. Whats next to Days of our live, this has been on for 45yrs and has some rough times but you have seen this through.

What.... I loved this new show. It was something new and fun. Not the same old S***! Whitney was just like all the other shows. Is there any way to reveres this. This blows now Im down to to 2 shows for this Fall. NBC whats next DAYS!

Very upset about this it was my favorite....

i am very upset I loved this show it was my favorite......I hate reality shows. I loved the fact it had mystery and the costumes were great. I loved the fact it was about the 60's very very upset...

This sucks I will no longer be watching NBC this pisses me off and it was the only show that I watched on NBC!! Im pissed off.

I agree with all of you...I really liked this show and thought it was interesting. I just love how it was about another era and would prefer to watch an exciting drama anytime over all the dumb reality shows. Give it a chance!!!

Can't believe this show is being cancelled. It was nice to see something different instead of reality. I thought the show had substance and looked forward to seeing it every week.

Really? First show that is not a reality, cop or medical drama that I have enjoyed since Friday Night Lights. Up All Night has been disappointing to say the least!

I'm pretty disappointed in this decision NBC, I found this show to be gripping. I'm not home until later but I would record and watch as soon as I got home. I enjoyed this program more than anything else on prime-time. I watched Up All Night one time and as a fan of Christina Applegate, I still did not enjoy. Whitney is stupid. Very disappointed.
