Two and a Half Men Review: Nice to Meet You, Walden Schmidt

at . Comments

On what was likely the most-watched episode of Two and a Half Men in history, people tuned in to the season nine premiere for one reason: to meet Ashton Kutcher's Walden Schmidt.

Ashton Kutcher as Walden Schmidt

But before we even get there, I want to discuss the star-studded opening, starting with the ex-girlfriend ladden funeral.

From old flames such as Courtney (Jenny McCarthy) and Mia to more recent women like Chelsea and even her friend, Sherri (Jeri Ryan), thy were all there. It was vintage Two and a Half Men humor, right on down to Evelyn trying to sell the house at the funeral.

Back at the house during the second act, we still had the entire supporting cast, including Berta and Evelyn and going right on down to Judith and Herb. And that's before the celebrity buyers came in.

These were quick and cute, from John Stamos and his devil's threesome to a modern day Dharma and Greg talking divorce. The latter was an adorable nod to Lorre's past sitcom and it put a smile on my face.

Really, the show seemed like Jon Cryer and the rest of his supporting cast could have carried things without Sheen. But Chuck Lorre and company, or more likely executives at CBS, did not have faith in their existing cast, so they had to bring on the gimmick that was Mr. Ashton Kutcher.

Enter Walden Schmdt and his hung-like-a-horse tall, good-looking, rich and supposedly smart self. So, was it "Nice to Meet You, Walden Schmidt?"

Clearly, the shows tried to build Walden in with some sympathy by introducing him as a shell of a man after his wife left him. And all it was going to take was a threesome to bring our man back and we would all be built up with him, right?

Well, unfortunately between Kutcher's terrible acting and a horribly written character, it all just felt awkward. Was Walden supposed to be bright like his character and wealth indicated?  Because all I saw was the trait that has permeated every character Kutcher has ever played: stupidity. However, unlike his lovable, iconic Kelso, there wasn't even charm. There was just... dumb luck.

I'm giving the show an appropriate 2.5 stars. Not just because of the title, but because it was pretty much half of our maximum rating. But then there had to be a second half.

Obviously, like everyone else, I'll probably give it one more week. Past that, though? 2 Broke Girls seems like much better sitcom filler to me.

This Show sucks without Charlie

I hate two and a half men now it sucks!!!!! The other guy is so ugly and doesn't even know how to act bullshit!!!!!!!!

The show sucks and always been boring.

BORING! taking charlie off the show it's like.... Married with children without Al Bundy, Rocky without Stalone, southpark without eric cartman! you warner studios guyshave created a headless boring monster called two and a half men with ashton! Charlie WAS right! he's winning!

bring charlie back please. without him may as well cancel the show. why does that no acting ashton think walking around naked is funny? he is not a good actor. i did not miss a day of watching the show when charlie was on. thank goodness for reruns. only watch the twice since ashton took over not funny at all. you had a winning combination with allen jake and ruined the show

just watched epísode 4........actually i ended up playing solitaire on my lap top. sorry, this new character is appalling, boring, completely unfunny. just let alan and co. continue and i agree, give alan some good luck, that would be the best direction to take, just as in the Rosanne series, it would give the actors plenty of scope.
walden does nothing for me at all, sorry.

I really hope someone reads these comments, because there will be no show, if this crappy writing continues. I'm on team Alan Harper", because he is just like a normal person. He needs something good to one has this much bad luck. Again..Ashton is not keep his clothes on..being dumb is not an attractive quality to least not this one. He is just gross to me.. at least with Charlie we knew what we were getting,,a one night stand maybe, but at least he was smart..I get that some guys are turned on by stupid girls, but it doesn't go the other way.. Ashton is gross...Alan is the only thing that keeps this show holding on,,, and you guys are screwing it all up..I accept that Charlie will prob never come back, but the way you are trying to spin the Ashton character is stupid. Again, a vulnerable, childish, whinny baby of a man, is not attractive, so take another route with this..Please!! who really buys that he is hot..he's just a mess, and not a hot one..You might be trying to make him look business smart, but at the same time really stupid, but a man with no life experience does not fit in this show. Charlie was a real man, that's what made him sexy, he's not that hot anymore either, but at least he was a confident man!.We would have never seen him cry, over some ugly girl that didn't want him. He would have replaced her in a sec, or he would have made her fall in love with him.. This new character has no's boring,,and not at all funny..I really loved this show before,,I've always watched it with my man..but we are both sick of the new already..

Ok, I really miss Charlie, but I could handle Ashton. The real problem with this show, is it's all the same crap over and over. We as a country are struggling economically. Do you really think, that we think it's funny to watch Alan never have anything go his way. This is our reality, it's not funny at all. Change it up some at least, Alan deserves something good, love, money, or just some kind of success. Every episode is the same crap. Alan, is the glue that holds this show together. It really doesn't matter who the other guy is. Alan has a sad life, and no one thinks that is funny. Yeah, i'm sure some people buy into the Ashton being cute, but I don't think that at all, I really wish he'd keep his shirt on. This show wasn't about a hot guy..not saying that Charlie wasn't, but it was about a guy that had so much money it didn't matter. I would love to see something new, fresh. The only thing you can really do to turn this around is give Alan some success..Please.Please.. It really isn't funny all. I just watched the new episode.. and I am one more viewer that you are going to lose. Because, I am sick of seeing Alan be so desperate. I really don't understand how anyone involved in this show thinks that it is funny.. It sucks.. Your laughing at our lives..I've tried to hang on and be a committed fan, but this is just getting ridiculous. The new episodes, are not only not funny, but show no respect at all. It is disgusting to see how they all act after losing Charlie..I'ts sad that I will not be watching this crap anymore, I really did give it a chance, but every episode just gets worse. I really feel bad for Alan, we as an audience have connected with this character, and I am just tired of seeing him get the shaft..

Wow...I've only watched two episodes since Ashton came on board. I might say...BORING! The laughter I hear in the has to be a recording. No 1 can possibly laugh @ anything/any1 on this show. & really, that's how they killed off Charlie? Man, these writers suck!!

Please either get Charlie back or kill the show. They could have done without Ashton Kutcher, Something has got to change .I , nor my wife or any body we know can watch a whole episode without changing the channerl This is really sad

Just like old times. I'm talking and you're in a bottle ignoring me.

Alan [to urn]

Walden: Trust me, money doesn't buy happiness.
Alan: I wouldn't know, I've never had either.
