The Vampire Diaries Round Table: "The Hybrid"

at . Comments

Klaus failed, Anna warned and Caroline's father paid his daughter a visit on this week's episode of The Vampire Diaries.

Which ghost do you trust? Who inspired you the most? And might the show's love triangle be growing tiresome? Come along with Round Table participants Matt Richenthal, Steve Marsi and Dan Forcella as we delve into "The Hybrid."

What was your favorite scene from the episode?
Matt: Klaus actually losing it for a change. The guy is so calm and collected, so I took his anger over the hybrid failure to mean he's seriously scared of whoever the heck has been giving him directions.

Steve: Damon's speech to Elena at the end. Hanging on every word and moment of silence, I was legitimately unsure if they would go there. Full-fledged couple or not, the chemistry is palpable and the relationship complicatedly spellbinding.

Dan: Klaus in all of his glory, with all of his dead werewolves in the woods, just waiting for them to wake up and become the army of hybrids he dreamed of. Just listening to him declare "You build your army so big, that no one ever dares pick a fight" gave me chills. It's just too bad that it all came crumbling down around him only a few hours later.

Elena's torn heart: Growing more interesting, or growing more tiresome?
Matt: Teetering on the edge of tiresome. Elena said it herself to Damon last night when he kept pressing her about leaving the woods: yes, she cares about him, why must he keep bringing that up? She's with Stefan and that isn't changing, so let's stop catering to the Delena shipper with such frequent teases.

Steve: Interesting. See my first answer. If they keep dragging this out interminably, my mind will change, because this is the kind of thing that seems destined to grow tiresome. But when Damon called her out about why she was ready to leave, that caught my off guard and raised the emotional stakes. Brilliant.

Dan: I'm going to go with interesting. For a while I had no doubts about her and Stefan, but as of late that has changed. I don't care how many Ian Somerhalder quotes I read that say there will never be Delena, I'm holding out hope for it. And as long as Damon keeps showing up in her bedroom while Stefan is out and about with Klaus, there's only so much longer she can keep denying the blue-eyed beauty.

Who do you trust: Anna or Vicki?
Matt: Anna. It's easy to forget because it's been awhile, and we tend to place the dead on a pedestal, but Vicki sort of sucked when she was alive.

Steve: Vicki. Why? Because I'm on Team Matty and they're sibs. Step off, Anna.

Dan: Neither. Never trust ghosts.

More inspiring speech: Elena telling Alaric he's part of the family, or Damon telling Elena to remember how she felt in Stefan's absence?
Matt: I know I bashed it above, but taken on its own, Damon's words to Elena were moving: When I drag my brother back from the edge and deliver him back to you, I want you to remember the things you felt when he was gone.

Steve: Elena's. Ric needed to man up, and after Coach E all but begged him to summon whatever he had left to carry on, he'd have run through walls for her. Maybe Klaus should try to be a better motivator with his next hybrid army.

Dan: I have a newfound love for Ric and his fancy haircut so I'm going to choose the former. He's basically Elena's father at this point, or at the very least, her crazy uncle, so why not break down and make him a part of the family? He deserves it.

More surprising development: Bill as Caroline's father, Tyler tracking down the pack's whereabouts off Elena's phone or The CW not mentioning that Jeremy used Bing to learn more about ghosts?
Matt: Tyler's incredible phone navigation. He had one piece of information - Stefan is in Tennessee - and once they got into the mountains, Elena pointed out to Alaric the precise spot where Tyler said the pack would be. Impressive. We could have killed Bin Laden years ago if Tyler was on the case.

Steve: The last-second reveal of Bill's identity was tremendous, but I've gotta go with the lack of Bing plugs. How do you work that in so shamelessly for 1-2 years, then not in EITHER STORY LINE in which characters look things up online? Maybe the CW is really TV to Google Map about.

Dan: I have to go with my man Jack Coleman as Bill. I did not see the former Noah Bennett being Caroline's father. The best thing about having single mothers and fathers on television is that you can bring their former spouses in at the most opportune times, as we saw here with Mr. Forbes: NHRG. The biggest question becomes, what will Bill do with his daughter locked up down there?

I happen to know this oailrihus book very well, and it will have you rolling on the floor laughing. Great review, and a fun read I highly recommend.

1. Favorite scene would have to be a tie between Alaric and Elena's talk and Damon and Stefan's woods scene. The fact that there are so many characters but they often get stuck only socializing with the same characteres isn't lost on me. I loved that Alaric and Elena got some one on one time, because they very rarely do. (also nice to see Tyler and Elena share the screen because you hardly see those two together either). Plus I love Alaric in all his creepy glory and he is part of this screwed up supernatural family dangit! And of course...Damon and Stefan can rock a scene together. I still maintain that the true love story of this show is about the two brothers, they rock a scene together be it intense, or heart warming. 2.Elena's torn heart. I say it's still interesting. They walk a fine line but manage to pull it off. I love both brothers so I can see the conflict. Stefan is awesome and Damon is the most complex and the chemistry is inescapable...they gotta squeeze it in somehow.Plus what's the harm of keeping hope alive for Delena shippers when we all know it's never going to actually happen? 3.I trust no one. And on this show? I trust no one. 4.It's a tie between the speeches. Again I loved the moments betewen Alaric and Elena. The guy needed a pick up and contrary to whatever he believed he wasn't going to find it in the bottom of a whiskey bottle or his lesson book (does he still have one of those? Does he still have a job?) But Ian Somerhalder can recite the ABC's and make it intense and thrilling. Damon does what no one else on the show does...he pointblanks Elena. Sure she still has that pesky habit of batting her eyelashes and exploiting the love he has for her to get him to do what she wants (not a big fan of that). But he gives as good as she does. 5. Most surprisng moment is Elijah not having that dagger pullled out of him yet. Seriously, I miss that guy. I gotta go with the subtle bing nudge. This show surprises me so much that if I'm not surprised that's the only time I'm surprised, so Tyler's accuracy on the very rare werewolf population was logical...and Caroline's father...well knew something big was happening so wasn't caught off guard.

Does anyone remember when Caroline brought up that her father was dating a man in season 1

Anika harrison chisolm

I would like it if Caroline is part were. But not as a relative of Tyler thats just nasty just like the whole Elana not knowing which brother she wants...just pick already!!!

i just don't understand 1 thing, since elena is in luv with damon nw and she's more worried about him than finding stefan, why won't they(damon and elena)just get along with there feelings for eachother and act on them, why is elena still worried about stefan and trying to get him back, what about her new luv interest, why won't she just focus on him nw,it's even damon that's suppose to be worried since stef is his brother and it's coz of him he's in that situation nw,i don't see any difference between elena and katherine nw,the only tin dat differs them is that katherine is a vampire and elena is human,i hate elena right now, never thot she will do that to stefan after everything he's done for her and her loved one's,she's always saying it'll always be stefan, coz if i can remember the first time she said that was in season 1 episode 22,but elena do u really tink u'r doing the right thing or u'r just letting ur feelings over rule u,think twice before u do anything that u'll regret later in d future.

Good episode. I think that the most interesting thing about the Klaus story was the fact that keeping Elena alive is thwarting his if they would just revive Elijah! I look forward to seeing a Damon and Elena hookup, not because they have better chemistry than Stefan/Elena, but because there is a much better buildup to their story. Let's face it: Two seasons of formulaic brooding glances and unrequited love is bound to win over most audience members. Stefan does not stand a chance. However, if that's going to happen, I wish the writers would develop an interesting storyline for Stefan, because in many ways, I prefer his character to Damon's. I'm also a Jeremy fan and I like the idea that he's seeing ghosts, but I think that they can do better than the Vicky/Anna sidestory . As always, I loved the Caroline and Tyler sidestory, especially the scene with Tyler's mom witnessing his transformation . But lastly, where the hell is Bonnie? This is a character who had the potential to be one my favorites if she didn't suffer from such lazy writing on the part of the writers.

where can i watch this episode,am so desperate to watch it,can't wait any longer.

Well, best scene..i swear, i try hard not choosing damon`s speech at the end..
Because i don`t want the show focussed to the question delena or stelena.
I think the whole show has a great team of actors and they play great characters.
But when he turned around after he forced elena to admit that she was worried about him, more than she wanted to find Stefan, and told her..
When I drag my brother back from the edge and deliver him back to you, I want you to remember the things you felt when he was gone..and the way he looked at her than..well my hard work was pointless..he got me..totally
And i`m not a delena shipper..besides..who`s creating this dumb nicknames like chair, delena, stelena
I also love the scenes between Damon and his brother..great chemistry between Paul and Ian.
Hope for the next episodes that they are as great as the first and second.

There's way more chemistry between Elena and Damon than Elena and Stefan - i think thats been said, alot. Stefan has more chmistry with Caroline as it happens. Klaus is like a one dimensional cartoon villain. And not very handsome. He has a good voice and accent tho. He needs some inner conflict, some hicnk in his armour. Elijah was way more interesting to watch.

Oh an Ita! Matts abs looked great! Elena is growing a personality around Damon ;)....she was like dry paint around Stefan.
