NCIS Round Table: "Restless"

at . Comments

Our official review of NCIS broke down "Restless" in great detail. Now, TV Fanatic staff members Steve Marsi, Matt Richenthal and Eric Hochberger gather for a Round Table discussion of the episode.

Join in below, as we discuss various aspects of the NCIS team's latest adventures ...

What was your general take on this week's episode?

Steve: Excellent. The case kept me guessing, and I enjoyed the developments with Tony, especially the dynamic between the vulnerable DiNozzo and Gibbs as father figure. Always stellar.

Matt: Solid. A good lesson we saw with Lindsay and Tony, albeit on different levels, people go to great lengths to reinvent themselves, whether they're aware of it or not. Well played, NCIS.

Eric: It was great to see the team back together this week after the EJ/P2P case seemed to take over the show. I thought it was a good episode. Interesting enough case, plenty of laughs to go around and some genuinely sad/sweet moments as well. Why fix what ain't broke?

NCIS RT - depreciated -

Favorite quote or scene from the episode?

Steve: Palmer pulling a Ducky on Ducky, earning an even icier, confused Gibbs glare than usual!

Matt: Tough call, but I'll take Ziva walking McGee away from the groupĀ  mocking him. Poor guy.

Eric: Ziva's butchered idiom: "Get your sheep." Fairly close ... it's not like she said rhinoceros.

Do you prefer mature Tony over goofy Tony?

Steve: What's great about this show, and what keeps it so realistic year after year, is that the characters are allowed to be real. Tony is so much more than a one-note, McGee-harassing frat boy. This episode tied in well with Tony's mental state after the season premiere and his evolution in general. He's quite a bit more complex than he lets on, and viewers are starting to see more of it in recent seasons.

Matt: Calling him mature is almost too simplistic. He's more vulnerable and introspective than in years past, but if you think about it, there's always been more to Tony than the superficial exterior. He's just less guarded and more willing to examine his own behavior now, which is neat to see.

Eric: As long as the zingers and obscure references don't stop, I'll allow a little maturation.

Better rule: Gibbs' #6 or Palmer's #1?

Steve: "Never say you're sorry." That may work for Gibbs, but Tony will break it.

Matt: Gibbs' wisdom is unmatched, but really, how do you compete with Jimmy here?

Eric: Pipettes can never be too clean. THAT is Palmer's top rule. Amazing.

Are you excited for Lily Tomlin guest starring next week?

Steve: Yes. Not quite as excited as I am to meet Gibbs' ex-wife, which I'm very curious about (and will also include an appearance by Fornell), but Lily's great and the promo looks funny.

Matt: How can anyone not be looking forward to a McGee episode!

Eric: McGee's grandma winks at Tony in the promo. Enough said.

@zivaplsmarryme never thought michael was female but come to think of his or her hateful comments maybe michael is a she why would a male hate such a beautiful talented lady.and yes tuesday is nearly here.

hey janet, replied to your comment on the other article. let's just ignore these haters, shall we? besides, we should be thankful to them for mentioning ziva/cdp every single time they post. free publicity, whether good or bad, is still publicity. sshhhh don't tell them they're actually helping her, they might stop hatin'. LOL

haters have been trying to get rid of ziva/cdp since she came on board. it has been 7 years, people. give it up. she's here to stay. Cote, if you are reading this, ignore these haters and continue the great work you have been doing so far. us fans got your back! oh and, will you marry me? :D

janet, the alma awards are awarded to a relatively limited list of possible recipients as they only include latina actors/singers/artists. CdP is on TV's number one drama, and no one else who she competed against had that advantage. Also, voters were apparently (this is just something that I read, and don't know if it's true or not) able to cast multiple votes, so that potentially skews the result. But yes, accolades to CdP on this award, but how much competition was there really?

annie cote de pablo won the 2011 alma award she was voted the best tv actress in a drama series dont tell me you didnt know this.yes i know pauly perrette was voted the most liked in ncis but you dont mention cote de pablo was 2nd.i know tony is not the clown as some people make him out to be he is a kind and thoughtfull but like it or not they will be tiva big time though not yet.I dont put you in the same class as the hatefull michael i know everybody has there own opinion but check your facts before you write anything.

Well janet I don't know what poll you are referring to, but Pauley P., actually topped the Q score ratings for two years in a row. That poll is based on the ratio between recognition/favorability, and so is not exactly a popularity poll per se. And I never said that CdP didn't have her fans. I simply contend that not everyone A) loves her, B) would be devastated if her character was replaced or minimized C) wants the show to revolve around her far too numerous personal traumas and dramas and D) want Tony's character to be further sacrificed at the Tiva alter, just so she can have the best looking guy pining after her. Tony is a very interesting and complex character even though SB did his best to ruin him. Ziva has had constant focus for the last few years, but continues to bore and annoy me (and others). I'm real tired of the Ziva focus, and thankfully, GG seems to be spreading the focus around to include other characters as well. I applaud this effort. Ziva is NOT everyone's favorite. One of the great things about NCIS is the rich palette of characters from which to choose. We got the same few colors week after week with SB. I am looking forward to seeing other characters shine this season.

I like Ziva however I do think there more episodes about her then the others I sick of seeing her father I don't like him I don't care to see him again.
Tony and Ziva have good Chemistry I do want them together but not yet I think Tony is funny and I like him funny and I love his character hes my favorite.
I also agree Tony is mature he always was when it came to his Job I think Tony puts up walls around him but I love his Jokes around tho so I hope they keep that in and when he teases McGee too

Rachel Wells I think your comments are right on. Michael has always had his Ziva hate here and we pay no attention to his comments. Now he has Annie who has drifted here from the CBS site backing him up. They are in the minority.
Well, sorry for you but I believe that the show it heading in the direction of putting Tony and Ziva TOGETHER.
And about time too. Yes, NCIS is about deaths and cases to be solved, but the undercurrent and the reason NCIS is so popolar are the relationships. Tony and Ziva is the most popolar of all of these on the show. They have the history and the chemistry which is more than obvious to most everyone.
YES - a very small percentage as Janet says do not want this. But 86% or more do. That was shown in a poll.
So just enjoy the ride - NCIS will not be on the air forever. I want a nice progression of my favourite characters and I love the way their direction is heading.
Michael - you love Kate so much - 7 years ago she was on for only 2 years.
She should go watch her other show because guess what - she isn't coming back to NCIS - never - ever -move on!

Tony and Ziva has as much chemistry between them as the US does with Iraq

Tony is "maturing", I hope that in this line we move towards a serious relationship with Ziva as all are waiting since she arrived and observed the brutal chemistry between them!
