Rizzoli & Isles Review: "We Don't Need Another Hero"
What do you call the female version of a bromance? Whatever that term is, you'll find the phenomenon on Rizzoli & Isles.
"We Don't Need Another Hero" jumped ahead inn the aftermath of Jane's shooting by three months, starting with an award ceremony to honor her heroism. But the last thing Jane felt like was a hero. She was mildly depressed, not cleared for work, and still in pain. And of course it was Maura who noticed.
Maura: You still have pain?
Jane: No, I just like saying ow. | permalink
Adding to her woes, she found out her parents were divorcing when her father didn't show up at the medal ceremony.
Maura dating Jane's trauma surgeon was just icky. Or maybe that was just the surgeon. Loved when Jane pegged him for using the term "we" instead of "you" when he spoke to her. Perhaps it's a surgeon's way of distancing himself from the patient but, damn, that's annoying. I was so happy to see Maura kick Byron to the curb at the end.
Elsewhere, the death of PFC Abby Sherman was quite horrific. I did like how everyone had to drag Jane away from the scene. First Casey, then Maura, then her brother. Still, she made a connection with Amy and she wanted to be a part of this investigation.
Maura's the one person who recognized that Jane's recovery wasn't going as quickly as expected and wondered if the cause was completely physical.
Maura: I just wish I knew what was causing that pain.
Jane: Again, I'm going with a 40 caliber bullet. | permalink
Turned out that getting back to work and a little down time with a certain Lt. Col. was the boost her recovery needed. Too bad Casey got sent back to Afghanistan. Jane could use a serious love interest.
I hope to see more of Maura and her new roommate, Mrs. Rizzoli, next week. Now there's a situation that should be very entertaining. I'm not sure poor Jane will recover from this.
Overall, so glad to see Rizzoli & Isles back. It's a show with beautiful, smart, tough women who have serious chemistry. I can't wait for more.
