Gossip Girl Season Finale Round Table: "The Wrong Goodbye"

by at . Comments

Welcome back to the weekly TVF Gossip Girl Round Table, where our panel breaks down the previous night's episode (see our review from earlier this morning).

Below, GG critic Mister Meester is joined by the legendary and incomparable Gossip Guy, TV Fanatic's esteemed co-creator to discuss the Season Four finale.

Our colleague DANdy is back from his Lost Weekend Month with Jack, but will likely take until September to fully recover from that kind of bender. Rough.

It's a two-man show again, sadly, for our last RT of the season:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from last night?
Gossip Guy: "When are you going to realize that I had a better life before you climbed up my fire escape four years ago?" Snap yo, V. Good riddance and enjoy Spain!
Mister Meester: OMG, anything out of G's mouth. "I haven't been this bored since I believed in Jesus" was classic, as were her nonchalant references to the guy she was with (and why), and how she accelerated someone's hospice care to score an apartment.
2. Did Chuck and Blair make the right decision to part ways?
Gossip Guy: Yes, Chuck saved Blair's life. Yes, Chuck seems to be maturing. But I just don't think he's dealt enough with his many demons to be ready for any woman in his life, let alone Queen B. Now, do I think boring Louis is right for her? Probably not, but are the princes ever exciting in fairy tell weddings? Eh, who am I kidding, go get married. All I care about is that I get invited on that yacht. Move over, Rufus.
Mister Meester: I think they did, but as I said in my review of the episode, they need it to stick. She's getting married. If Louis was going to get dumped, this was the time to do it. If Chair's games continue any longer, they will not only grow stale, but hurt other people.
3. Hardest to believe: The five-second resolution of the Raina/Russell storyline, Serena getting a job in the movies, or Dan's novel getting published anonymously?
Gossip Guy: It seems every week my "harder to believe" also goes to something with the Raina / Russell storyline, so I might as well give it to the silly wrap up of that waste of a season-long arc. Meanwhile, I definitely believe the S storyline. I know I'd give her any job.
Mister Meester: All were too convenient, but the publisher asking "where do I send the checks" killed me. We're expected to believe V would steal Dan's work (which he didn't notice was gone), shop it around masquerading as his agent and land a lucrative deal?
Mr. Louis Waldorf
PRINCE HARMING: Will Blair break Louis' heart next season?
4. Who do you most want to see back next season: Jenny, Jack or Georgina?
Gossip Guy: Ooh that's a tough one. I mean obviously not raccoon girl, but way to try and sneak her in, Mister Meester. Very clever. I guess I'm going to go with G. Jack had his hilarious day in the sun, let's see what G can do now that she's teaming up with Crazy Charlie. And no, I don't care if it was an act, it only makes her crazier in my eyes.
Mister Meester: All of the above. I don't know if it was part of the problem, but I personally missed Jenny this season. Jack is great but the small doses we get may contribute to that. Georgina, on the other hand, still has me laughing after last night. More G always equals more drama and humor. Great combination, no?
5: Rate last night on the Vanessa Uselessness Scale (1-10).
Gossip Guy: Didn't I already give V a sendoff? Now I almost feel guilty. Girl is off the show and already got called out in my favorite quote. Ah, who am I kidding? 732.
Mister Meester: At the very least, Jessica Szohr's character came full circle last night, reverting back to the holier-than-thou outsider calling out Dan's sellout ways. 4.
6: Who's pregnant?!
Gossip Guy: Unfortunately, I'm as positive as the test that it's Blair and Chuck's baby. It's Gossip Girl and there's no way Blouis could have a drama-free wedding.
Mister Meester: If it were really Cyrus and Eleanor, as some readers have realistically guessed, that would be the weakest cliffhanger in history, even for the CW. Serena hasn't been with any guys in the recent past, right? So it's got to be Blair. With two potential dads (three if you count Dan, though it's unclear if they had sex), that would give birth to a HUGE story line.
The finale was okay. Not the best or the worst. I do believe season 3 had much more intruiging finale in the sense that we were wondering if Chuck is dead/not? Is Dan the father of G's kid and watz gonna happen with that?
This time the cliffhanger were not so awe-inspiring. I do like the cliffhanger of who is the baby mama? And if its Blair who is the daddy? I personally think its Chuck's. There was no point of Chair having sex if they didnt want this to be shown. Similarly no need for the three weeks leap if it wasnt Chair. I dont know how I feel abt it though.. Have to wait and watch. The episode had one of the most touching scenes in the series. The epic goodbye. I am a Blouis fan but for once I became the chairshipper that I was. I loved the way they interacted. Ed and leighton were really good. I loved that line: Dont let anyone tell you that you arent powerful. It felt like they were growing up- that a chapter was ending and the end of an era. A beautiful messy era!! A very powerful scene. Now I am totally glad that Blouis got together- I hope to see Monaco and that yatch next season. I am doubting that B will marry Louis as two other suitors who are regulars of the show were shown moping after she left. I guess season 5 would be Dair/Chair season? I am hoping to enjoy Blouis for as long as it lasts and then see which team to jump on?
How does Dan know who Charlotte Casiraghi is? Yeah, like it's very difficult to google Monaco Royal family.
WORST SEASON FINALE YET
Another Bonus Question: How does Dan know who Charlotte Casiraghi is? Is he secretly reading somebody's stash of European magazines, or did Blair submit everybody in her UES social circle to Dorota's presentation/quiz on the Monaco royals?
many of you say,that Blair was way to happy to know that she was pregnant,but maybe she didn't. We saw Serena after their last talk with Blair, but they didn't show Blair anymore. Maybe she did the test before leaving, and we couldn't see her reaction. i believe that it will be Chuck's and Blair's baby,because it would be just too boring to continue the simple happy story with prince. Season 5 needs drama too, and this pregnancy will give MUCH
1. Favorite quote goes to Georgina of course. "I miss you! You get me!" Classic G, crazy and all.
2. I feel like Chuck/Blair parting ways is a feels so wrong but is so right type of thing. In a way they kind of remind me of Marissa and Ryan from The O.C. Marissa and Ryan were perfect together, had amazing chemistry but it never lasted too long. Every time they were ready to be a couple something or someone always got in the way. I've noticed that Chuck/Blair are good when they are not with each other. Louie and Dan both brought out the light airy Blair and Eva brought out the sweet side of Chuck. Maybe the two of them are better off with significant others that don't scheme and play games.
3. Serena shouldn't be getting a job with those bleached eyebrow's (just because you're in Cali doesn't mean you need to go full throttle blonde), the Raina/Russel Thorpe story was a total dud, it could have been way more exciting.
4. Jack and Georgina should team up.
5. I am going to give Vanessa a 5, her getting Dan's book published could lead to a Dair romance and to a great Dan story.
6. I don't even know how to answer this. My bet is Eleanor or Blair. BTW I loved the Bar Mitzvah scene, it was nice to see Blair and Chuck together with smiles on their faces. The song was perfect too, killed it.
I can with all certainty rule out Eleanor. In season three, episode eleven when Blair thinks that her mom's pregnant but they find out it was Dorota, Blair tells her mom she was crazy for thinking it because "We both know you closed your business a long time ago" So Eleanor had her tubes tied. It's still between Blair or Serena or Dorota, but I have my money on Blair.
Bubumaelou
I LOVE GEORGINA! OMG HOW I'VE MISSED HER! All her lines were gold and I swear I cannot stop laughing! I really felt her boredom and desperation for schemes! I love her- FOREVER! Total opposite of what I feel for V.
Charlie...I mean Ivy not crazy and is an actress planned by Aunty Carol. Who sees another Georgie with lame acting skills comin on?
The pregnancy test stick was in Serena and Blair's bathroom. Why would Eleanor or Dorota put their pregnancy test sticks there?If it was Blair's and she goes to Monaco she's crazier than Georgina and Charlie combined. It's Serena's.
