Gossip Girl Season Finale Round Table: "The Wrong Goodbye"

at . Comments

Welcome back to the weekly TVF Gossip Girl Round Table, where our panel breaks down the previous night's episode (see our review from earlier this morning).

Below, GG critic Mister Meester is joined by the legendary and incomparable Gossip Guy, TV Fanatic's esteemed co-creator to discuss the Season Four finale.

Our colleague DANdy is back from his Lost Weekend Month with Jack, but will likely take until September to fully recover from that kind of bender. Rough.

It's a two-man show again, sadly, for our last RT of the season:

1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from last night?

Gossip Guy: "When are you going to realize that I had a better life before you climbed up my fire escape four years ago?" Snap yo, V. Good riddance and enjoy Spain!

Mister Meester: OMG, anything out of G's mouth. "I haven't been this bored since I believed in Jesus" was classic, as were her nonchalant references to the guy she was with (and why), and how she accelerated someone's hospice care to score an apartment.

2. Did Chuck and Blair make the right decision to part ways?

Gossip Guy: Yes, Chuck saved Blair's life. Yes, Chuck seems to be maturing. But I just don't think he's dealt enough with his many demons to be ready for any woman in his life, let alone Queen B. Now, do I think boring Louis is right for her? Probably not, but are the princes ever exciting in fairy tell weddings? Eh, who am I kidding, go get married. All I care about is that I get invited on that yacht. Move over, Rufus.

Mister Meester: I think they did, but as I said in my review of the episode, they need it to stick. She's getting married. If Louis was going to get dumped, this was the time to do it. If Chair's games continue any longer, they will not only grow stale, but hurt other people.

3. Hardest to believe: The five-second resolution of the Raina/Russell storyline, Serena getting a job in the movies, or Dan's novel getting published anonymously?

Gossip Guy: It seems every week my "harder to believe" also goes to something with the Raina / Russell storyline, so I might as well give it to the silly wrap up of that waste of a season-long arc. Meanwhile, I definitely believe the S storyline. I know I'd give her any job.

Mister Meester: All were too convenient, but the publisher asking "where do I send the checks" killed me. We're expected to believe V would steal Dan's work (which he didn't notice was gone), shop it around masquerading as his agent and land a lucrative deal?

Mr. Louis Waldorf

PRINCE HARMING: Will Blair break Louis' heart next season?

4. Who do you most want to see back next season: Jenny, Jack or Georgina?

Gossip Guy: Ooh that's a tough one. I mean obviously not raccoon girl, but way to try and sneak her in, Mister Meester. Very clever. I guess I'm going to go with G. Jack had his hilarious day in the sun, let's see what G can do now that she's teaming up with Crazy Charlie. And no, I don't care if it was an act, it only makes her crazier in my eyes.

Mister Meester: All of the above. I don't know if it was part of the problem, but I personally missed Jenny this season. Jack is great but the small doses we get may contribute to that. Georgina, on the other hand, still has me laughing after last night. More G always equals more drama and humor. Great combination, no?

5: Rate last night on the Vanessa Uselessness Scale (1-10).

Gossip Guy: Didn't I already give V a sendoff? Now I almost feel guilty. Girl is off the show and already got called out in my favorite quote. Ah, who am I kidding? 732.

Mister Meester: At the very least, Jessica Szohr's character came full circle last night, reverting back to the holier-than-thou outsider calling out Dan's sellout ways. 4.

6: Who's pregnant?!

Gossip Guy: Unfortunately, I'm as positive as the test that it's Blair and Chuck's baby. It's Gossip Girl and there's no way Blouis could have a drama-free wedding.

Mister Meester: If it were really Cyrus and Eleanor, as some readers have realistically guessed, that would be the weakest cliffhanger in history, even for the CW. Serena hasn't been with any guys in the recent past, right? So it's got to be Blair. With two potential dads (three if you count Dan, though it's unclear if they had sex), that would give birth to a HUGE story line.

What do you think? Sound off in the comments!

i dont get it if the writers know how badly everyone wants chair why do they keep on dragging this story on and on and on i mean come on really chuck and blair said goodbye AGAIN its getting old. and im postive blairs not prego their going to make it seem like she is and thats its chucks baby but then some huge twist is ganna come n its going to be someone elses or she is prego but shes going to get a abortion against her own will and someone posted about louie getting killed in season 5 but im actualy with them on that i know its weird but i think louie is going to get killed or hes ganna be so pissed that blairs baby is with chuck hes going to leave cuz come on gg cant just have a happy wedding their not going to go thru with it but I HOPE CHUCK AND BLAIR GET TOGETHER THEIR THE STARS OF THE SHOW AND WE ALL KNOW IT WOULDN'T BE THE SAME WITHOUT THEIR LOVE STORY AND I LOVE LOUIE BUT BLAIR IS NOT ENDING UP WITH HIM

I now understand why the title of this episode the wrong goodbye. blair finally chose chuck (prince of darkness)but chuck provides an opportunity to have a life like she always longed for this. especially when chuck hear the elenor's speech and he saw the seriousness louis to blair. without chuck realize the bond between them so strong. when blair said she only felt the ruin when she with chuck, she was not aware of anyone who is always there for her when she needed a partner to all her plans, even when she was feel not confident chuck is always there to restore her confidence. I always remember when chuck says: "when people do not remember Blair Waldorf just remember I'am chuck bass and I love you." I do not understand why many people who think when blair with chuck there is only destruction. they are a symbol of passion, love, and maturation themselves from evil, do not have parents who care for them properly so that they act as they pleased just because they are able to do anything until the maturation stage of self-turning them into someone who is strong, loving person with all its goodness and ugliness, has a vision of life. chuck and blair gives us how individuals can change to a better stage. I really loved their characters. ed westwick and Leighton plays them very well. I really hopes at season finale they will be together! even I believe they are mean to be. their love give us something special that maybe never happen in real life. I really thanks gossip girl being filming but I double thanks that they don't stick the story like the book. (I can't imagine how I dealing when chuck is gay =D) I really can't wait for next season. thank you just sharing what been spinning in my head =)

ha.the finale was soooo dissapoing. OH MY GOD. I can't believe how FOOL chuck is and he let blair go away with that awful prince louis. chair must be together so the fans would be pleased. I wish the pregnancy test was blair's(chuck's child of course) and we could see a CHAIR together. Please I beg you all the writers, don't mess up with Gossip Girl. It's a really good show, but with the things that happen is going to end up as a silly and awful teenage soap opera. DON'T DESTROY the show plz. Anyway i HOPE louis go to hell and a CHAIR together! I'M LOOKING FORWARD FOR SEASON 5 :D

LOVED the bar mitzvah scene! The chorus from Adele's "Rolling in the deep" was perfect. The line "we could have had it all" when chuck and blair were dancing and on the chairs made me feel like what could have been or could be with them

I think that if Eleanor is the pregnant one, next season will be far more funny. As for Chair, it was time to finally end it, and they made it very classy. I wish they made a season in the summer, it's more interesting, I'm tired of the classical pattern of filming during the so called school/university time.

or maybe charlie pregnat? coz she once in blair bathromm right?

Van ayson

can my rank ever be promoted? Just asking. nah i want some HOT NEW GUY CHARACTER IN!!!

S has read 'The Beautiful and the Damned'?
S has read ANYTHING?
Best line ever in the show.

1) Best quotes have to go to G, especially the: "Oh, I can tell you're up to something. Please let me in on it. I haven't been this bored since I believed in Jesus." We missed her!! 2) Don't know if it was the right decision but sure it was heartbreaking... I am a huge fan of Chair, and my hopes are not down yet... something has to happen to put the 2 of them back together! 3) "It's untrue that you get whatever you want just for being Serena"... yeah and that's why you get a job in the movies in like what, 3 minutes???? That's impressive! 4) Jenny's boring, Jack played the good guy for once so he's def out of the game, so my answer would be Georgina all the way. And she'll be teaming up with Charlie/Ivy in next season, who i would have never expected to be someone Carol hired to mess around with Lily. It's going to be a great story line! 5) I'll give V a good 4 and have fun in Spain! Hope her publishing Dan's book would turn into something good for Dan and not just scandal. But is she going to keep the money??? 6) It has to be Blair. Can't be Serena, she hasn't been with anybody for a while.

Gossip Girl Season 4 Episode 22 Quotes

Chuck: You really love him, don't you?
Blair: Yes. But not like I love you. Louis and I, it's different. It's lighter, more simple. He makes me happy.
Chuck: And I don't?
Blair: What we have is a great love. It's complicated. Intense. All-consuming. No matter what we do and how much we fight, it'll always pull us in. What's mere happiness in the face of all that, right?

Chuck: There's a difference between a great love and the right love. I left the Empire State Building last year after two minutes when you didn't show. Louis waited all night. This is your chance at happiness. You think you shouldn't want it 'cause you've never had it and it scares you. But you deserve your fairytale.
Blair: We make our own fairytales.
Chuck: Only when we have to.
