Gossip Girl Round Table: "Shattered Bass"

at . Comments

Welcome back to the weekly TVF Gossip Girl Round Table, where our panel breaks down the previous night's episode (see our review from earlier this morning).

Below, GG critic Mister Meester is joined by Gossip Guy, TV Fanatic's President, programmer and accountant (among other titles) to discuss "Shattered Bass."

We're pleased to report that our colleague DANdy has returned to the U.S. in one piece, but is recovering from jet lag and being roofied by Jack Bass at this time.

It's a two-man show once again, sadly. But we'll give it our best:

1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from last night?

Gossip Guy: In honor of the return of the original Basshole, I have to go with the entire scene in which Jack nags Chuck to speed things up with Thorpe's arrest: "Can we call the cops soon? I'm hungry and all you seem to have are olives and hallucinogenic mushrooms."

Mister Meester: Anything out of Jack's mouth would be a good choice, but I'm giving it to Gossip Girl. She's either raiding Chuck's mushroom supply or just plain phoning it in these days with lines like this, after Charlie poured out her meds: "I don't think that's what the doctor meant when he said 'Use As Directed.'" That doesn't even make SENSE!

2. Dan-Charlie sex scene: Hot, weird or unintentionally funny?

Gossip Guy: "Can you call me Serena?" Seriously Charlie? If you already need to role play in the first hookup, where do you picture things going down the road?

Mister Meester: Unintentionally funny that Charlie brazenly wanted to jump Dan's bones in the headmistress' office, then super hot when they both stripped down, then pretty darn weird when she wanted to be called Serena. Things got awkward pretty fast.

3. Harder to believe: Charlie going crazy after missing one dose of her mystery meds, that Blair and Louis are even engaged, or any part of the Russell/Chuck story?

Gossip Guy: Gonna 100% go with the Russel/Chuck/Bart storyline. They had me until Jack knew about Chuck's relationship with Raina from halfway across the world. What is he checking Gossip Girl's blog too? That was just silly.

Mister Meester: Blair and Louis have no chemistry, but he is nice and she loves a good fairy tale. Everything about the Russell Thorpe story arc is confusing, but at least his shadiness has sort of been put into context. But what the heck is Charlie's mental illness exactly? Why did she stop taking her medication? Why did that turn her into a lunatic in a matter of hours? All unclear.

Louis' Fiancee

ROYAL MESS: Blair nearly made one of her engagement by seeing Chuck.

4. Best guest star cameo last night: Cyrus, Jack or the original mean girls?

Gossip Guy: Sorry Cyrus and Jack, you guys have been always stolen my heart as guest stars and all, but Isabel and Katy!? What an amazing throwback to season one. Does anyone else remember when these girls were on the Gossip Girl Insider cast page? Hah, to think we thought they were going to be regulars and not just GG's attempts to diversify the pilot.

Mister Meester: All offered great continuity with past seasons, but did the mean girls forget Nelly Yuki? Weak. Jack ranting to hurry things up after they nailed Russell was awesome, but I'm still going with Cyrus, of whom there is never enough!

5: Rate last night on the Vanessa Uselessness Scale (1-10).

Gossip Guy: In honor of one of the greatest casting articles I've ever read, I'm going to give Vanessa a proper send off with 1. Let us always remember today as the new V-Day. February 14 was so 2010.

Mister Meester: 3. Mocking how useless she is has become too easy, and certainly loses some of its appeal now that Jessica Szohr kind of got fired. The only question is whether we rename this the Rufus or Nate Uselessness Scale for Season 5.

6: Will Blair choose the Prince or Chuck?

Gossip Guy: Definitely the Prince. Much like the little Gossip Girl fans in tonight's episode, we all know I stopped rooting for Chuck. And besides, Blair models herself after 1950s actresses. What's more fitting for her end game than following Grace Kelly and marrying a Prince of Monaco?

Mister Meester: Judging by this photo gallery from next week ... I still have no idea. But it doesn't look like B's too furious with her Dark Knight anymore. Just saying.

What do you think? Sound off in the comments!

Charlies obviously a blair expy... only instead of being obsessed with 50's movies... she's obsessed with Single White Female. It's pretty clear to me that she hasn't been taking the medicine for a while, probably shortly before or after screwing over Vanessa

NOOO not the Nate Uselessness Scale! I just hope that Nate gets more stories next season. Put him back on the scene! I miss Nate and his boyish charms, I mean he still gets to do that but over a blahless plotline.

1. It's a 3 way tie between:
Blair to Penelope: I invited you to attend not speak.
Dan to Kati and Is: Hey Kati! Is! Glad to see you guys back and wearing matching outfits again.
Jack: All you have in your fridge are olives and hallucinogenic mushrooms! 2. That was awkward. "Call me Serena." Hahhahaha ridiculous. 3. Blair and Louis engaged after meeting one time in freaking Paris. Yeah, right, that would never happen. 4. I love Cyrus. But tie between Jack Basstard, and the original mean girls. LOVE KATI AND IS! Buuuut Jack Basstard always comes and effs up everything and it's amazing! 5. 1- so glad she isn't coming back for season 5. Good riddance, V. 6. I think Chuck will finally let her go after he saves her and he'll let her go to Louis. She'll feel conflicted. Okay Georgina and Charlie next episode: Crazy vs. Crazy Jack and Kati and Is should be in more episodes!

Cheneva0952: Blair and Nate havent been together for a while, I highly doubt they`ll randomly get together now, dont be stupid.

lets get some things straight
Chuck and Blair belong together, and I have high hopes that they will be together forever in the last episode of the season! :) Louis will fuck off to his palace in france and marry someone else. Russel Thorpe to go away aswell, he speaks a load of crap Riana to fall off a bridge, she gets on my nerves really bad. Dan and Charlie sex scene is... weird in a good way. Jack Bass to go back to New Zealand and leave Chuck alone. Nate to actually get a life! OH AND CHUCK TO SAVE BLAIR FROM RUSSEL!!! Looks scary, hope russel doesnt kill her AND LOUIS DONT YOU SAVE BLAIR, ITS CHUCKS TURN, AND HE SHOULD BE HER BF, NOT YOU!

Maybe Blair can go back to Nate.
Nate is so nice, he can take care of Blair.
He will say to Blair everything is OK .Blair , you can take a rest on my arms

I am surprised you guys missed this, at the Begining when Rufus gave Charlie the meds, he said your Mom called and said you didnt refill it, so she could have been off her meds for a while. That's why she wen't nutso, she was half way there!

1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from last night? Probably Jack's line about the olives & mushrooms. hahaha. i was cracking up. i never knew he was so funny :) 2. Dan-Charlie sex scene: Hot, weird or unintentionally funny? WEIRD! so creepy... 3. Harder to believe: Charlie going crazy after missing one dose of her mystery meds, that Blair and Louis are even engaged, or any part of the Russell/Chuck story? I agree with some of the other commenters, we don't know how long Charlie has been off her meds. I guess the Russell/Chuck story was the hardest to believe bc Chuck would have definitly already watched the entire tape looking for anything to prove Bart's innocence. I'll let it slide tho because this was the best episode of the season in my opinion. 4. Best guest star cameo last night: Cyrus, Jack or the original mean girls? Katy and Iz should have had more lines so its a draw between Cyrus & Jack, they both had me laughing. I give Jack a slight edge because I was so HAPPY he was there to help Chuck and not hurt him for once. 5: Rate last night on the Vanessa Uselessness Scale (1-10). hmm she wasn't too bad this week, helping Serena to figure out what was going on with Charlie. She won't be missed tho. I vote for a Nate Uselessness Scale in Season 5. 6: Will Blair choose the Prince or Chuck? Neither. Blair will end up alone this season. Since Serena will be in Cali and Nate & Chuck will be off in Europe I think there will be a repeat of winter break with Dair spending lots of time together over the summer. Next season will start with Dair then focus on the redemption of Chuck before him and Blair FINALLY get engaged & live happily ever after. I'm a Chair fan at heart but I can still appreciate some Dair ;)

1. All Jack's lines. He was definitely the comic relief. But I also liked Blair to Penelope "I invited you to attend, not to speak", gotta love vintage Gossip Girl.
2. As Mister Meester said, it was those 3 things all together.
3. The Russel/Chuck story doesn't seem hard to believe for me. A little far fetched maybe, but not unrealistic.
Blair's engagement shouldn't even be an option in this question. Given Blair, do you really consider hard to believe that she would jump into an engagement with a real Prince?
The Charlie thing, well, you can think maybe that was not the first dose she missed. Maybe she has not been taking her meds ever since she arrived in the UES. So for me, the real HARD thing to believe was she throwing her meds on a living room trash can thinking no one would find out.
4. As much as it is always so delightful when Cyrus appears and the vintage mean girls were missed, gotta give up to good, friendly uncle Jack.
5. 20. what was her use, honestly? To tell something Serena had already discovered at Blair's party?
6. It seems that Chuck will choose the prince for her.

Best news of the season.... The original troll is leaving! She needs to make sure she takes Jenny and Raina with her! Jack... loved your olives and H. mushrooms comment. Too funny! Dan and Charlie... "Call me Serena." OMFG, I almost spit out my dinner! That was a hoot! And, DUH! Of course Chair! Like there could ever be any other possibility!

Gossip Girl Season 4 Episode 21 Quotes

Chuck: So I thought I'd bring some luxury across the river. Brooklyn needs it. It's all bars, bakeries and babies. No hotel in sight. Charles Place. You up to attend the ribbon cutting?
Nate: No thanks.
Chuck: Still pissed I lied to Reina about my father?
Nate: It was a big lie. Even for you.
Chuck: That's why I'm stepping out from under his dark shadow and away from the Bass name.
Nate: Whatever you want to call yourself or your hotel, you're still the same person.

Good morning, Sleepyheads. Looks like "dream until your dreams come true" wasn't such a good idea after all.
