Bones Review: Lime in the Coconut
There certainly was a hole in my heart after this week's very emotional episode, which marked the return of Jacob Broadsky. "The Hole in the Heart" made for quite the heartbreaking and intense hour, touching on each of the key characters.
The long awaited return of Broadsky and the end to this story arc was intensified by his almost unpredictable pursuit of Booth. In those few moments preceding the inevitable shooting of one of the characters, I could barely hold my composure, even though my gut feeling said it was Nigel Murray who would end up in the cross-hairs. Even when it happened, I remained completely shocked and saddened.
It was an exceptionally emotional scene for both Booth and Brennan, who attempted to save him without success.
I was blown away by Brennan's insistence that he was her favorite intern, which, even if she was only saying that to keep him coherent and conscious, still depicted her in the most human light we've had the pleasure of seeing her in for quite a while. Both in the moment when the shot was fired, and in the moments following the thought of how the bullet was meant for Booth, was a concept not far from their minds. Booth certainly entertained the the possibility.
It was a rather difficult loss for everyone, appropriately so. Murray has been around for several seasons and seems to be one of the favorite squinterns. His wealth of facts will be missed as much by the fans as they will be to the Jeffersonian team, who couldn't help but call on them in his memory.
The rendition of "Lime in the Coconut" was an appropriate way for the team to say goodbye to Vincent, as the song certainly fit his personality. While I will be said to see him go, the one thing out of this that will stick with me for quite a while was his plea to stay. The distant look in his eyes was heart wrenching as he begged to not be made to leave. I was on the verge of tears, I'll admit.
This plea weighed heavily on Brennan, a thought which she presented to Booth in the wee hours of the morning. As she shed tears for Vincent, thinking that Vincent was speaking directly to her, Booth's assurances that he was talking to God or the universe broke the barrier between what's logical and what isn't.
Brennan's vulnerability in stating that "if there is a God he would have let Vincent stay with us" broke the boundary between what could rationally be explained and what couldn't and her inability to reconcile the two. It was a very powerful moment, only enhanced by Brennan's plea to stay with Booth to cry into his chest, allowing him to attempt to comfort her.
Furthermore, we never really did get a definitive answer as to whether or not Brennan and Booth did the deed. But Brennan's small smile and Angela's overjoyed reaction seems to indicate that it very well may have happened. I think that they just comforted one another and that was it, though clearly their vulnerability made for a deeper connection.
This week's episode had a lot of powerful emotions to present. Next week, however, it seems that the season will end on a much lighter note, bowling alley and mullets included. It will certainly be less emotionally charged. But I still may not be over this by then.

I just watched the episode... I have to admit I teared up a bit when Vincent died, although I knew it would happen the moment Booth gave him the phone. He was by far my favourite Squintern, loved that cute british accent and him blurting random facts all the time was really funny... eh, I neved did this for a fictional character before, but RIP Vincent.

I was very sad to see the end of Vincent Nigel Murray/Ryan Cartwright, but he was awesome and won't be forgotten. I loved the cast singing The Lime in the Coconut, it was fitting seeing as how it was his favourite song. Looking forward to Season 7 now even though I had said I'd give up on the show; I was getting bored of the will-they-won't-they thing and Hannah's story arc but now I've finished the series (don't worry, no spoilers from me!) I am hooked! Again! Well done HH, you win.

i think it would have been better if this episode was the end of the season ... it was a very intense and pleasent episode to watch ... :D:D .. just love bones...

I'm actually torn on the question of did they/didn't they. On one hand, Bones's sheepish 'well you know' grin indicates they probably did, as does Booth's cheerful attitude the next morning at his FBI office.
But...
I'm going to go with no. They probably didn't. The show didn't show the REST of the conversation with Angela and Bones. It just followed Hodgins as he reported to Cam. There was also a certain amount of uncertainty with how B&B were acting towards each other that tells me they crossed a line but not all the way.

was i the only one who though that singing "Lime in the Coconut" was an inappropriate way to say goodbye to their dead colleague? And shouldn't Angela shout at Brennan instead of being happy that she used the death of a friend to get in bed with Booth? I think this whole episode was screwed up...

I just watched the episode again and I have to say 'Bravo' to HH and SN. These guys really know how to evoke some emotion and yet, leave things vague. The VNM dying scene was very moving - I imagine even the cast shed a tear. AND the build-up/lead in...cameras angles of all the characters as potential targets, backed with the eerie "Keep the Streets Empty for Me' - genius!
With respect to B&B - did they do it or not??!?! I could argue either side of that question. The clock blinking 4:47AM, walking into his bedroom, a death in 'The Lab' etc are great for the conspiracy theorists that want to link this to the Season 4 finale. Having said that, I am of the opinion that B&B probably did not actually have sex, but shared the intimacy that moves them forward. In the end, the act matters less than the emotion they are embracing. Looking forward to next week and the long wait until next season.

Reviewing the episode, I realize I should have paid more attention to that one line by Vincent "I presume I will be dead very soon" when Bones and him were simulating the attack. But that's just the kind of simulation Bones loves to do and so we never pay much heed to those anymore. Oh those subtle hints...
I'm glad to see so many of you were on the verge of tears, but really, how many of you cried? because I sure did. I cried a couple of times, I'm not going to lie, there was the death scene and the "why was he asking me not to make him go away" scene and the sending him off scene, it was a very emotional episode! I'm just glad I bought a new box of tissues yesterday (maybe my subconscious was preparing me for something...) The episode was awesome, and it felt like a finale, so I had to double-check and see if it wasn't. I'm glad it looks like we won't be questioning the bed scene for the summer, I, for one, am ready to see the two of them develop a relationship, I think there's pl

While this was a good episode .... there were parts which
belonged on a day time soap opera.
At first I did not believe that there was any sexual act between
Brennan/Booth. But after watching it again ...I am not certain.
They may have had a night of long awaited sex/love what
ever you want to call it. My reason to change was the non verbal
interactions.
Also, by not killing Broadsky I guess he will be back at some time
during season 7. Maybe he escapes from custody and now instead of
going after Booth. He goes after Brennan.
But who really knows what the producers have in mind for the
direction of the show.
P.S. I also watched The Finder again. I did not change my
mind on this show. It is horrible. I can not believe that
FOX picked it up for the fall.
I wonder if it will last past 6 episodes. Any rating it recieved
was from the Bones viewers who watched.

First of all what is that mania of the writers to killing off tv shows' nice characters this season??
First the vampire diaries, now bones, next week castle... What the hell is going on with you guys??
Vincent was so funny with his random facts that I'm gonna miss him so much!! And at the beginning of the episode with his t-Rex vs Man was just hilarious!!
And when Booth and Brennan tried to save him, and he didn't stop saying "don't make me leave" was heartbreaking, I was almost on tears and after that, at Booth's, Brennan crying over his shoulder was so sweet!!
We don't know yet what happened that night but Angela's face and she shouting Hodgins to go away was priceless!!
