All My Children and One Life to Live: Cancelled!

by at . Comments

It's been a good, multi-decade run for the world of daytime dramas.

But it effectively came to an end today, as ABC announced the cancellation of both All My Children and One Life to Live. The soap operas have been around since 1970 and 1968, respectively. They will be replaced by two talks show: The Chew starring Mario Batali and The Revolution starring Tim Gunn.

Soaps

Said Brian Frons, ABC's Daytime President: "We are taking this bold step to expand our business because viewers are looking for different types of programming these days. They are telling us there is room for informative, authentic and fun shows that are relatable, offer a wide variety of opinions and focus on ‘real life’ takeaways. A perfect example of this is The View, and that factored into our decision."

All My Children will go off the air in September, while One Life to Live will follow in January.

I have watched All My Children since the first show. Through the years I watched it whenever I could. After I moved from my home town, I kept up and discussed the plot with my mother, by phone, every week. When VCR's made recording possible, I never missed an episode.
I was disappointed when they moved to California, but still loyal. Now, I am extremely sad to lose this part of my life, but it is only TV after all.

I was very interrupted with the idea of ABC canceling out All My Children, and One Live to Live. I have watched these faitfully when abled, and they've been an escape way of relaxing. Now your putting on talk shows,, I will no longer watch abc. I am upset the motion is in action, and feel there should be a chance for the watchers of these problems, have soome real say they could have that may have an effect of such a occurance happening

I can't believe after all these years you are cancelling AMC and OLTL. The people at AMC had them and their family to california and now their cancelled what's up with that. Like I really want to watch people try to loss weight and cry that they can't. What I'm I going to watch from 1:00-3:00 talk shows, no way am I going to do that. What is going to happen if these shows don't make it, you just cancelled two of the best soaps on tv.

I have watched OLTL since the first day it came on TV. I have such fond memories of watching these shows with my Grandmother when I was a kid. Now I am 55 and when home try to catch these.
It makes me sad to think that ABC is canceling these shows, but I agree with other posts, follow the money.
Looks like Kelly Ripa made a good choice 10 years ago to leave the show and enter the talk arena.
Erica Slezak, Susan Lucci, I will miss you and the rest of your casts from noon to 2~
GH can't be far behind!

Boo to abc, with other options I will no longer view them, so all company's that air your commercials on this network, you are now wasting your money, as they will never be watched. TV off time 1PM-3PM. Moral to this post KEEP SOAPS ALIVE!

Follow the money, Folks. Obviously ABC is running out of money and can't pay actors any more so they air 'reality' shows that don't cost so much to produce. They are grasping at straws. Guess they didn't notice Beck and King went off.

This is devastating. Like so many people I have have been watching AMC for as long as I can remember and started watching OLTL in the last 5 years or so. I have been back in school for the last 3 years as well as working a full time job, it has been overwhelming and stressful, but no matter how much I have to get done watching these shows is "my time" that I allow myself to take each day. I can't believe this is happening. I will not be watching the new shows.
