The Vampire Diaries Round Table: "The Dinner Party"

at . Comments

Welcome to this edition of The Vampire Diaries Round Table. As always, our esteemed panel has gathered to analyze the latest installment of this CW thriller, reviewed in depth HERE.

Below, editor-in-chief Matt Richenthal is joined by TV Fanatic writer Steve Marsi and fellow critic Eric Hochberger to discuss developments from "The Dinner Party" ...

What was your favorite quote/scene from the episode?
Matt: The exchange between Elena and Stefan, where he admitted that he was a monster back in the day. It illustrated how well this show jumps from the past to the present during flashback episodes, using the former to shed light on events on ongoing events and relationships.

Steve: Elijah almost gets it for his line about picking up younger women, but I'm going with Damon's "There's no such thing as a bad idea. Only poorly executed awesome ones." Not sure if that's true in business, but it definitely applies to murdering originals.

Eric: You guys did see Katherine stepping out of the shower, right? Call me crazy, but going with that.

More of a shock: Elijah's death, Bonnie's loss of powers or Katherine's freedom?
Matt: Elijah's first death. I had literally just commented to my wife about how great of a character he was becoming, eerily calm in the face of all threats, when - bam! - Alaric plunged the dagger in.

Steve: Definitely Elijah's death. Both times, but particularly when Elena finished him off. Shocked as I was that Alaric, who I refuse to call Ric under any circumstances, stepped up and took the shot, I figured Elijah would wreak havoc for weeks after he escaped. Elena and Stefan's plot to lower his guard was as surprising as it was elaborate.

Eric: Jonas removing Bonnie's powers. It actually made me care about this character and I didn't think that was possible.

Should Alaric tell Jenna the truth about Isobel?
Matt: No. You know what they say: honesty is the best policy, unless you're telling your girlfriend about how your wife was turned into a vampire by the brother of the guy doing her niece. Then, you're just asking for trouble.

Steve: Sure. Honesty is fundamental in relationships, as the appearance of keeping secrets is worse than the actual secret 97 percent of the time. Besides, this town has seen everything. If Stefan can come clean about slaughtering members of Elena's family and still be hitting that by the end of the night, what are Alaric's skeletons really going to do?

Eric: What, that she's more attractive than Jenna? Seems unnecessarily mean to me.

Preferred hairstyle on Damon: Retro or modern?
Matt: Modern. Everything about his modern persona, from hair to snark to bubble bath compulsion/intercourse, is sexier.

Steve: Retro. Nice volume, less dependent on products.

Eric: Neither. Call me when he goes all Justin Bieber on us.

Can we trust Katherine?
Matt: To look out for herself at all times? Yes. To actually do what's best for those around her? Please. That's as likely as Snooki staying in on a Saturday night.

Steve: Totally. She's proven nothing but reliable and open about her reappearance in Mystic Falls so far. I'm being sarcastic, but any more of those shower scenes and I'd probably trust her for real, who are we kidding.

Eric: It's hard to say. I'd need to talk to her more to find out. Maybe one-on-one. By candlelight. In a towel.

In the next epodise, caroline should be with tyler but it's impossible, i think that shows that caroline is indeed a good friend. I can't wait the brand new epodise The Vampire Diaries Season 2 Episode 14: Crying Wolf.

Nice episode..

1. Fav scene was Elijah's death. Fav quote was Elijah's joke about not dating younger women. Please don't make me choose between the two!
2. Elijah's death. I'm like, "Yes, they can't kill him. I love this guy." And then Ric (yes, I called him Ric) kills him and I'm going "Noooooooooooo!". Then the daggers out and it turns out he's still alive. "Yes!" Elena kills him "Cool death, but nooooooooooo!"
3. Yes. Then the next time Jenna sees John she can get all over him about what a jerk he is...both in mystical Vampire world and in every day Mystic Falls world.
4. Modern, although my fav Damon is the retro one. He's so much sweeter and more sensitive...the guy has way less baggage than he does today.
5. I think we can to a point. There's going to be a little selfish drawback, but I actually think she'll help out for the most part. I can't say completely. We know that we can't say she'll honestly help out completely. Sorry, Kathy.

I think Katherine can be trusted. It in her interest to help them kill Klaus, if she runs it will just make it easier for Klaus to kill all of them. They should work together.
And I don't think Elijah is really dead, htey will probably bring him back when they are going to kill KLaus. Or maybe Jonas will revive him so that he can help.

Have you noticed that they've changed the round table guys/girls... I like the old peeps they had comedic attributes and their reply's were much more in-dept. I don't know... The questions were much more interesting as well. This VD episode was amazing- Show more passion about it!

When is this best show going on a break??

Hey guys, Damon's looks from ancient times are incredible, he looks so sweet and innocent, that's just the role he had then, now he's the tough/rough guy with modern style, but I likes the hair from season 1 better! still, he's fantastic...

Anna maria comment was only after his first death.. I still want him to come back though! And I love that Kat's free, she's one badass chick! And Bonnie's loss of powers doesn't interest me one ittle bit.

Anna maria

Why did they kill Elijah? Just to test the theory?? I liked him! He'll be missed!

Does anyone know where i can watch it free and online bcz i didnt get to watch it:(????
