Kevin McKidd Dishes on Grey's Anatomy Musical Episode

at . Comments

For those of us familiar with memorable Grey's Anatomy music selections from the past six-plus seasons, the show's musical episode is sure to bring back fond memories.

The episode will feature songs made popular by the series, like The Fray's "How to Save a Life" and Snow Patrol's "Chasing Cars," both featured prominently in Season 2.

Kevin McKidd reveals that he's involved in both of those numbers, as well as singing Gomez's "How We Operate," from "Deterioration of the Fight or Flight Response."

"We're in the studio right now," McKidd says. "I did my recording [Wednesday]. I've got quite a big couple of numbers. It's a one-off episode in Callie's point of view."

"It's very dramatic. It's a very intense episode. No jazz hands and glitter balls."

While fans have been nervous that the show may be jumping the shark by doing a musical episode, the actor insists that it's really more "a love letter to the fans."

"It's very exciting and experimental. I think it's great that the show took such a bold move to do something like this, and I think it's going to work in a big way."

Grey's Anatomy returns next Thursday, February 3. What do you think of the idea of a musical episode? Shark-jumping or a fun tribute to GA fans?

@Grey's: The song Into the fire by Thirteen Senses was played in the first episode when derek and mer perform their first surgery. Soooo, where are my 5o bugs ;) And by the way, I really love "I built a home" too. The break up scene, what mer says bout change and that certain song... really one of my fav scenes of greys ever!

I'm expecting KMK can sing the love song to Cristina , just like he did on movie "made of honor", Romantic!! unforgettable!!
The song is "Stop Crying Your Heart Out" by Oasis.
I hope GA will pick up some love songs

I've discovered some of my FAVORITE songs through Grey's, How to Save a Life and Chasing Cars among them.
I'd want to hear just about any song from the first episode - there were so many good ones! Into the Fire, Life is Short, Portions for Foxes... I'd also love to hear What Can I Say from Brandi Carlile, Keep Breathing by Ingrid Michaelson, Make This Go On Forever also by Snow Patrol, Trouble is a Friend by Lenka, Love Show by Skye, Love Will Come Through by Travis, New Day by Kate Havnevik, Evil by Interpol...can you tell I'm excited? At first I was really skeptical and I still am a bit reserved but I have faith the episode will be done tastefully...though it is pretty hard to imagine!

I totally agree with you anuflas!!!

@ anuflas
COMPLETELY AGREE season 2 songs are not for the newbies!!

awww i LOVE into the fire by thirteen senses!!! one of my faves!! it played in the first episode of the whole series when mer and der were working on katie bryce's operation!!
i wish they could do that song!

This episode will be a disaster. I just hope that the newbies stay away from S2 songs. They do not belong there.

The only song I want to hear them sing is "The Story" by Brandi Carlile the signature song of Season 3. That song explain exactly what Grey's Anatomy is about.

I wish they would feature "Buildings and Mountains" by Republic Tigers too! that was featured when Mer and Der were going thru their Neuro clinical trial in S4.. Loved that one @ Grey's:
I don't eactly remeber the episode but I Loved that song and still it's in my playlist! so my votes also for "into the fire"!

You guys are bringing back such beautiful memories I love that song To Build A Home too In fact every time I hear that song it brings a lump to my throat specially remembering their breka up scene and this line from the song "and I build a home for u for me until it disappeared from me from u now its time to leave and turn to dust" Oh God it was so heart wrenching I can still feel the shivers Even right now while writing that line and remembered that MD scene I have moist eyes. It kind of takes away your breath you know to go back and remember what all MD have gone through and survived. I read a blog comment once which is kind of stuck in my mind ever since, the person said something like after three freaking triangles and so many many issues MD still manage to make us all believe that all that time they truly actually from the deepest core of their souls loved each other. Thats so true so true and its one of the many reasons why i am so proud of MD and their love. Truly its the stuff of legends.
There are many more memorable MerDer songs and I would kill to see them all again But only on them. One of my utmost favorites is Into The Fire by Thirteen Senses. Fifty bugs to anyone who can guess the moment when it was played. Its an important MerDer hallmark

Grey's Anatomy Quotes

Did you say it? 'I love you. I don't ever want to live without you. You changed my life.' Did you say it? Make a plan. Set a goal. Work toward it, but every now and then, look around; Drink it in 'cause this is it. It might all be gone tomorrow."

Meredith (closing voiceover)

There's a reason I said I'd be happy alone. It wasn't 'cause I thought I'd be happy alone. It was because I thought if I loved someone and then it fell apart, I might not make it. It's easier to be alone, because what if you learn that you need love and you don't have it? What if you like it and lean on it? What if you shape your life around it and then it falls apart? Can you even survive that kind of pain? Losing love is like organ damage. It's like dying. The only difference is death ends. This? It could go on forever.
