Kevin McKidd Dishes on Grey's Anatomy Musical Episode

by at . Comments

For those of us familiar with memorable Grey's Anatomy music selections from the past six-plus seasons, the show's musical episode is sure to bring back fond memories.

The episode will feature songs made popular by the series, like The Fray's "How to Save a Life" and Snow Patrol's "Chasing Cars," both featured prominently in Season 2.

Kevin McKidd reveals that he's involved in both of those numbers, as well as singing Gomez's "How We Operate," from "Deterioration of the Fight or Flight Response."

"We're in the studio right now," McKidd says. "I did my recording [Wednesday]. I've got quite a big couple of numbers. It's a one-off episode in Callie's point of view."

"It's very dramatic. It's a very intense episode. No jazz hands and glitter balls."

While fans have been nervous that the show may be jumping the shark by doing a musical episode, the actor insists that it's really more "a love letter to the fans."

"It's very exciting and experimental. I think it's great that the show took such a bold move to do something like this, and I think it's going to work in a big way."

Grey's Anatomy returns next Thursday, February 3. What do you think of the idea of a musical episode? Shark-jumping or a fun tribute to GA fans?

I think the musical episode is a cute idea, however it'll be kind of awkward to have them talking to the cameras, and the fans for once, since we're so used to being on the outside looking in. Personally, I think it'll be fun and an awesome tribute to all the fantastic music over the years but it is jumping the shark a bit.. because I don't know about everyone else, but I prefer to be on the outside looking in. And I prefer Calliope to be a surgeon and not a musical preformer, but... Shonda always knows what shes doing!

@Greysfan, no episode 13 on the 3rd of Feb. is an ordinary one based on CallAz, Mexie & the baby situation. The musical one will be at the end of this season, I think somewhere end of March or something, & preferably never.

I wld give anything to hear Homebird by foy vance simply because it played on my ULTIMATE ULTIMATE ULTIMATE and FREAKING ULTIMATE MerDer moment No other moment can come close to that oneI still can't beleive such a moment can even EXIST it was jus beyond perfection
Any guesses which moment it might be?

Is the episode on feb.3 the musical episode????????????

also... i feel like they better sing something by Kate Havenik or Ingrid Michaelson because many of both of their songs are played throughout the entire series.

i have become excited about this episode. but i was wondering if maybe someone could research if ABC will be making the cast versions of the song available for sale once the episode is released. i dont like comparing it to it, but sort of like Glee. the versions of the songs they sing are for sale on iTunes. i know i wouldn't be the only one wanting to hear our favorite people singing those songs on our ipods. :)

I am checking out the songs that have been mentioned. I'm finding I can remember them more if they involved MerDer scenes. I also love 'Them' by Jem from the first ever episode, you know where Izzie got the worse job of all the interns! Bryn Cristopher's the Quest is another fave

I hate the idea of musical episode, the only thing I appreciate about it is there's going to be plenty of Callie & consequently of Arizona too (who are both my favourite characters on the show). So, I guess whatever it takes to see my girls then. However, I'm really struggling to imagine Jcap singing or Cristina or Derek, lol.

I disgusted the idea at first, but after this I'm more accepting of the idea.

I hope everyone stops b****ing and waits for the episode. If it sucks then feel free, but I hate when so called fans complain about how bad "it" will be. I have high hopes for this episode! Hopefully it will be as great as I imagine! Try taking a positive view on a show you've stuck by for so long GREY'S FANS!!!! How disappointing. And then when a storyline doesn't go your way, you all say your gonna stop watching. Ugh.

Grey's Anatomy Quotes

Just because we can live without something, it doesn't mean we have to.

Derek: I am calling post-it, Zola, Bailey, the tumors on the wall, ferryboat scrub caps. I thought D.C. was everything. I was wrong. You... you're everything. I love you and I'm not going to stop loving you. I can't live without you. I don't want to live without you, and I'm going to do everything in my power to prove it.
Meredith: I can live without you, but I don't want to. I don't ever want to.
