Did Ricky Gervais Cross the Line as Golden Globes Host?

by at . Comments

He made most viewers laugh and most presenters uncomfortable. But did Ricky Gervais go too far as host of Sunday's Golden Globes?

Philip Berk, the president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, certainly thinks so.

Berk, who was painted a senile fool in one joke by the comedian, told The Hollywood Reporter of Gervais' performance: "He definitely crossed the line. Some of the things were totally unacceptable. But that's Ricky."

Ricky Gervais as Host

It's safe to assume Gervais won't return next year as host, not that he cares or would have expected to.

"Any of the references to individuals is certainly not something the Hollywood Foreign Press condones," Berk said.

But were they something you laughed at? Do you think Gervais acted inappropriately?

Ricky Gervais is at all times hilarious and did not go too far. For once I was sincerely entertained by an awards show. He also hosted last year so the HFPA and celebs should have known what to expect. They just expect these things to be ass kissing events, which it wasn't, and I loved it!

He did not go to far. He is amazing.

I recorded it, and am basically watching it now. I think he did go a bit too far, but like everyone has said; he is a comedian. It's basically a comedian's personality and daily routine to make a joke. It's not that big of a deal. If anyone were offended, they would have said something. And being the actors/actresses that they all are, I'm sure that they would have been confident enough to have said something.

He's a comedian! Making fun of people is what he does. It's his job If anyone takes what he says seriously is just an idiot. He is not only performing for the people in the room, he performing for the tv audience. The ability to laugh at oneself is a quality I think is lost in hollywood celebs. I thought he was HIGHlarious.

he's a controversial comedian. what did they think would happen? it would be like being shocked that russel brand is innapropriate. celebrites need to learn to make fun of themselves
