Daniel Gillies Speaks on Vampire Diaries Character, Klaus and More
Julian Sands, Jonathan Rhys Meyers... Ian McShane?!?
Like all fans of The Vampire Diaries, Daniel Gillies has some ideas on who ought to portray Klaus. But while we need to wait a few weeks for that discovery, the countdown is officially on for the January 27 return of this exhilarating show.
How will Gillies' Elijah continue to make an impact on it? The actor teased a bit of what's ahead in a recent EW interview, excepts from which are below.
On Elijah: He’s incredibly learned. I think he already has a very broad knowledge of the area. He definitely does, it’s revealed precisely how later on. But it’s quite possible that he’s bored out of his mind at this function, but the thing that fuels him is his desire to lure Klaus.
On his relationship with Jenna: He will be using Jenna... I think he’s enjoying the fact that whenever he’s around her, Alaric and everybody is kind of getting terrified... I think he derives something sexual from the terror he instills from just being around people. If he’s charming somebody, and somebody else is frightened, that’s a particular turn on for him.
On interaction with John Gilbert (who returns February 3): There is definitely some stuff approaching with us. My take on it is, Elijah’s gonna know who he is. This guy knows everything. He knows the machinations of the town. From the moment he discovered Elena there, I think he went crazy researching exactly what’s going on.

Klaus: What are you afraid of? Caroline: You. I'm afraid of you.

@nicole
I had no idea Henry was the first choice as Edward--damn, I would have waited on line to see the films, just to see him=so HOT! LOL
JRM is also terrific, but I don't see him appearing on this show. There's just so many actors one could consider to be Klaus, though..I can't even pick a list LOL

i don't think damon is too incredibly boring or has gone downhill that much. he still has a little bit of bad ass in him. the only reason he's softened up is because he's in love with elena and the only way he can be with her is if he changes. he did become softer after he killed mason. one thing damon hasn't lost for sure is his witty banter and dark sense of humor. ian somerhalder has done a great job bringing the character to life.

well i think ian mcshane is a good choice he has that authoritative look and Klaus is someone who has been around for a long time so no young boy is needed some one who can nail the role and give the fans what they want

I agree Addison. Jonathan Rhys Meyers or Henry Cavill would be great as Klaus. I loved them both in The Tudors. Also, since Henry Cavill was the original pick to play Edward in the Twilight movies I have been dying to see him as a vampire...

The Vampire Diaries is a GREAT show. Haven't missed an episode since it began. Myself and friends are in our 20'and 30's. The show has everything we want in a show. A beautiful love story between Elena and Stefan. A sexy tough/badass/gorgeous Damon who sleeps with and chases women. Though unfortunately Season he has somewhat lost his edge and has become rather boring and predictable. A character like Damon should not be so typical. By that I mean he's looking pathetic chasing after Elena. He's much to fine a guy to settle down with a teenager. Always looked forward to him suprising us with a new woman. Of course loved how much of a badass he WAS. Now that his character has become rather boring and uneventful. We are so glad that Elijah has taken Damon's place as the badass/tough guy. What a sexy sexy man he is. Excellent replacement choice of Damon. Looking forward to seeing much much more of Elijah.
