The Vampire Diaries Review: Damon Loves Elena!!!

at . Comments

Well, that was bloody fantastic.

The episode "Rose" had it all, from a brotherly road trip to an whirlwind of a fight to an outpouring of information to an entirely new direction for our favorite characters... and that was all before Damon caused every living room in American to fill up with dust when he finally told Elena the words he needed to say... just once.

I love you. Man, I'm gonna need a moment.

Brotherly Road Trip

Few shows can pull off the mix of action, answers and affection that was on display this week on The Vampire Diaries.

I might tear up again if I focus too much on the latter, so let's stop and try to make sense of the mythology that came streaming out of Rose's mouth this week.

Elena is a Petrova Doppleganger. We already knew this, but it sounds like she isn't the only one. Or there have at least been others through the years. Her blood can break the sun and the moon curse, which "the originals" are interested in doing, presumably so they can wreak some serious havoc.

QUESTIONS: Was Katherine actually trying to protect Elena? If so, why didn't she come out and tell her the same things Rose did? Also, what role does the moonstone play in all this?

There's a Klaus, too?!? This is both a point and a question. I can't fault a show that reveals so many answers on a weekly basis... but we were introduced to Rose, Elijah and Trevor all in the span of a few minutes. Then, we learn there's an even more powerful, ancient vampire out there? And he's also on the way?!?

That's a lot for a viewer to take in just one episode! At least we can sort through all this together, right, readers? That's what our Vampire Diaries forum is all about.

So, now we're left with a new set of enemies for the Mystic Falls gang to battle. And now they are a united front against whatever, or whoever, lies ahead. Stefan gave Damon a heartfelt speech and apology at the conclusion of the episode, which preceded the latter's moving words to Elena.

It looks like this sibling rivalry is truly over for a moment and that Klaus, Elijah and every other Original won't have an easy time taking what they want from Mystic Falls, not when the Salvatores have both found something to fight for.

A few other thoughts/questions:

  • The show has to be a little careful just having Bonnie cast whatever spell is most appropriate for a given situation. That can feel like a convenient way out for the writers, but at least there are grave consequences every time she does so.
  • Did events between her and Jeremy tilt your feelings on this potential hook-up one way or another?
  • Can Caroline really trust Tyler? Why do I have a strong feeling her secret won't remain between the two of them when all is said and done?
  • Way to Bing and decide, Jer!
  • You're a werewolf. Say it. Think this line, from Tyler to Caroline, was a purposeful wink at Twilight?
  • I found the use of the word "pardon" interesting. It appears as though the Originals abide by some form of law or code.
  • Impressions of Lauren Cohan as Rose? She'll be around for awhile.

I'll have plenty more to say in this week's Round Table, but now it's your turn: Comment away!

I laughed my freaking ass off when Tyler was like, "You're a werewolf... Say it!" and Caroline tried so hard to keep a straight face but couldn't. I love Tyler, and I love this pair. lol And I like Jeremy & Bonny. ;)

Now, I purposely haven't read the books because I want to have NO IDEA what will happen in the show. What I think would be cool is if Damon fell in love with ANOTHER Petrova Doppleganger. He loved Katherine, he loves Elena, I could see him ending up with another doppleganger.
I love Damon and got emotional during that scene, but I'm still a die-hard Stefan fan. I like the two of them together.

YAUZAAAAA :) This episode blew me away!!!! I kindda figured that Elijah would not parish that easily, he is a very charismatic charachter and Ifreaked the hell outta me! Some of the scenes where noticably predictible for me, as where he kills Roses friend since he promised HER and not him forgiveness..
The scene where he slapped the guys head of was sooo awesome that I had to rewind a few times just to catch that horror and gore once more! AWESOME!! And when Damon uttered the I Love You to Elena it was so touching, although I am not a "Delena" fan at all.. I dont think that the storyline will have that either as he erased her memory, but who knows, maybe like someone wrote, Jeremy heard him and tells Elena or something..
As to the fact that Rose reveals that there have been other double gangers, is a VERY interessting storyline, I hope to get to know from where they originated, and why they parished, assumably because they are linked to the sun&moon curse, but still, very interessting.
This show is just AWESOME in every sence, Im have to admit Im a Vampire Diaries ADDICT!!! I truly hope the show will continue for as long as possible, and still maintaining the suspence, drama, horror and love stories :)))
From Denmark :)))

You know what, watching Stefan and Damon this week made me realize that their brotherly relationship is my favourite on the show. I really couldn't care one way or the other on who Elena ends up with, I think the writers could work with either scenario beautifully. But Stefan and Damon's antagonizing yet caring banter is probably my favourite part of each episode, and I really want to see them work as a team to take down these "originals".

This episode definitely rocked! Ian Somerhalder is just an amazing actor; he makes Damon my favorite vampire because of his depth of emotion and versatility. He is such a very good bad boy! I personally don't see the attraction in Stefan the Edward clone, but then I always did like the bad boys. I like the "originals". Very scary! Can't wait until next week; I am officially addicted!

klaus is in the book and now in the show this keeps gettin better and better

Amy jackey

great episode like always. jeremy and elaina are related john is jeremys uncle and john is elainas dad. I didn't even cry when damon cryed. they should of had the brothers hug each other and they should of had elaina hug, kiss damon on the cheek and said thanks for saving her. this show is getting better and better.

in the books Klaus was the onewho turned Katherine but who knows now. The show is way off track and nuthin like the book

I FREAKIN LOVE THIS SHOW. I THINK THEY HAVE THE FINEST CAST AND THE BEST PLOT. god i cant wait to see whats next. im so scared elenas going to die. i love her the way she is and yes DELENA ALL THE WAYY!!! up until the stelena break up i was a huge stelena fan but now DELENAAAAAAAAA!! :D

I loved this episode, well I love them all but, that is besides the point. OMG Damon telling Elena he loves her, I am so in love with that man lol. My thing is we have seen that the mind erasing does not always work so did it work on Elena this time. Loved the speech that Stephen gave Damen In the end they are true brothers who love and need each other. Loved the new Vampires, Rose does look exactly like Alice from Twilight. OH loving the pairing with Bonnie and Jeremy. Oh and I love love love the Caroline and Tyler pairing. Could we see and werewolf and vampire pairing that would be very interesting. I feel really bad for Tyler right now he has no clue of what is happening to him. Man I could go on and on about this show or yet this episode alone. All in all another fantastic episode of TVD love it.
