Kevin Rankin to Cause Problems on The Mentalist
Kevin Rankin has nabbed a recurring role on The Mentalist.
The former Friday Night Lights star - who has appeared on In Plain Sight, Lost, Justified and Trauma - will take on the character of Patrick Jane's brother-in-law this fall.
Said producer/creator Bruno Heller to EW.com: “He’s a hustler, a con artist, a ladies’ man - a cunning ne’er-do-well. Through his sister, he has an emotional hook in Jane that he’s not afraid to tug at when it serves his nefarious purposes.”
Rankin will first show up in this season’s second episode on September 30. Look for his character to eventually turn to Jane for help.

Strange choice but he is a good actor, captured his truly weird essence in Justified. Jane's wife is seldom described except in a small cameo in the first season, but she seemed miles away from this grifter. What will be his effect on Jane will be interesting to witness, but I don't think this character can add much weight to this show except as divertisement. Please give us some heavies rather than miscreants.
