And then there were the final 12.

Following a series of semifinal performances that only produced a few truly memorable renditions, American Idol eliminated four contestants and narrowed season nine down to a dozen last night.

Of those sent home, we can't say we were shocked over Todrick Hall or Katelyn Epperly. The former was more of a dancer than a singer (by his own admission), while the latter only put on one great audition over the last three weeks.

But Lilly Scott and Alex Lambert? Didn't see those coming! Scott suffered from choosing old songs, and Lambert never possessed much stage presence.

Still, America, you'd rather see Paige Miles and Tim Urban over the next few weeks? Really?!?

Consternation aside, we do now have a top 12. They'll combine talents on Tuesday night and sing songs from the Rolling Stones catalog. The group is listed below. It goes from impressive to mediocre pretty quickly after the first four, doesn't it?
