Grey's Anatomy Round Table: "New History"

at .

The Grey's Anatomy Insider staff is pleased to announce, by popular demand, the return of one of our old, favorite features, the Round Table discussion! Below, our panelists break down some of the burning questions we're left with after last night's episode.

Be sure to check out our sister site's Private Practice Round Table from last night as well, if you're a fan of Grey's Anatomy's sister series! But now, down to business:

Topics for our "New History" Round Table include memorable moments, the Chief's problem, the arrival of Teddy, and the lingering tension between Alex and Izzie  ...

1. What was your favorite Grey's Anatomy quote from the episode?

McCritic: Cristina: "She attended state school!" Alex: "So did I!" Cristina: "She's skinny and blonde." Alex: "So is Mer." Cristina: "She's annoying." Alex: "So are you."

MerDerLove: Mer's closing narrative: "Sometimes the past is something you just can't let go of. And sometimes the past is something we'll do anything to forget."

iheartizzie: Callie's description of Richard as Bailey's "work husband." So true. LOL.

2. To you like Teddy?

iheartizzie: At first I didn't, but Kim Raver did a great job and fooled us all, appearing inept or at least somewhat flaky, but settling into her role as a teacher and cardio goddess.

McCritic: Not a huge fan. Nothing really against her personally but do we need any more docs? Intriguing back story with Owen though. What's going on there? What will go on?

MerDerLove: Hated her at the beginning when I thought she was a threat to Owenstina, warmed up to her when I thought she was just an awesome surgeon, then did a 180 when Owen balked at the end at her feelings for him. No! Don't do it, Owen!

3. Will the Chief get help for his drinking?

MerDerLove: We're led to believe Meredith saw him at Joe's, right? In that case, you've gotta think she'll confront the Chief before it results in any more snipped bile ducts.

McCritic: Richard is stubborn. How long has this been going on? Who knows, but don't expect him to own up to it or let down his guard anytime soon. It could get real ugly.

iheartizzie: Eventually yes. It's just a question of how. The synopsis for next week says Thatcher will call him out. Awkward! I look forward to seeing how that plays out.

4. Who deserves forgiveness more, Alex or Izzie?

McCritic: Are you serious? Alex helped her through her cancer, he conquered all his emotional issues and married her, and doesn't get the benefit of the doubt? Or even the benefit of a conversation before she splits town and cuts off all communication? That was cold.

iheartizzie: I still heart Izzie, as my name indicates, but she bolted. Whatever Alex's role was in her losing her job, there's no excuse for leaving him high and dry.

MerDerLove: This couple was never one of my favorites, and this is why. There's always been a lack of communication. You never know how Alex is going to react.

5. Did you prefer the character-centric episodes of the past two weeks, or last night's more traditional episode with multiple, intertwined story lines?

iheartizzie: I don't think it's a coincidence that the previous two episodes - "Give Peace a Chance" and "Invest in Love" - were among the highest-rated ever on our site (at least in our informal polling). Last night was good but I love when they focus more on one person/story.

MerDerLove: Traditional. More characters, more love to go around!

McCritic: Both styles have their merits. I will say, though, that I might pass out laughing if they ever do a Cristina-centric episode. Sandra Oh kills me. Not just her lines, but even when she's not speaking. Cristina's face says so much even when she says nothing.
