Round Table: "A Change is Gonna Come"

by at . Comments

Grey's Anatomy Insider is happy to announce the return of the Round Table!

While fans gather in our forum to discuss each character and story line, our staff members will come together each Friday to analyze key moments, developments and thoughts from each Grey's Anatomy episode.

Topics for "A Change is Gonna Come" range from Ms. Lexie Grey to Alex's new look, to some of the night's dramatic rescues and what we felt was missing ...

1. Should Derek be Mark's friend?

Derek ShepherdMcCritic: Yes. Mark knows how to reattach body parts. Maybe he could show Derek how to grow some ... you know.

iheartizzie: Hells no. Homeboy slept with Addison and tried to get Meredith in the sack. Don't buy the "it's just Mark" defense. Guy is bad news. Sexy, though.

AndYouveGotTheHair: Ideally, no, but with Burke and Addison gone and Meredith a little spacey at times, he's gotta hang with someone. I really miss Burke.

2. He said "I love you, too," but do George and Izzie stand a chance?

iheartizzie: Regardless of how you feel about O'Mizzie as a couple, their cover hasn't been blown yet. The surely negative backlash they face is going to put an entirely different spin on things, I believe.

AndYouveGotTheHair: I know I'm in the minority, but I don't despise these two as a couple. There is good chemistry there, great acting on behalf of both Katherine Heigl and T.R. Knight. Sure, George is married and Callie hasn't done anything to deserve this, but you can't control who you fall for. George clearly wants to do the right thing... he just doesn't know what that is, it seems.

McCritic: Not if there's a God in heaven. Or a writer with a quarter of a brain.

3. Save of the Day: Derek / Cristina with the spinal cord patient, Izzie with the deer, or Lexie with George's psyche?

AndYouveGotTheHair: You have to hand it to the new Ms. Grey on this one. Without going over the line with someone she doesn't even know, she got George to stop whining in a way that really was kind of awesome.

McCritic: Lexie. It's nice to see one Grey sister can worry about more than just herself. (Note to Meredith lovers: BRING IT!)

iheartizzie: Gotta go with Isobel. While it was the least remarkable in terms of skill (how much research does it take to deliver a massive electric shock), that deer was the cutest of the creatures needing saving. George has nothing on a real-life Bambi. Also, how great was Izzie's reaction when it worked?

Oh, Deer!

4. Alex's facial hair: Yay or Nay?

McCritic: A stronger "Nay" than the answer a horse gives when asked if he wants to visit the glue factory.

iheartizzie: Eh?

AndYouveGotTheHair: Yay!

5. What was your least favorite part of the premiere?

AndYouveGotTheHair: The way Lexie chose to drop the latest bomb on Mer. In the middle of a medical crisis! As if anyone would be so self-absorbed as to do that. Then again, her surname is Grey ...

McCritic: The status of the Chief and his relationship with Adele. Didn't he realize last season he needed to dedicate himself to his marriage? Didn't these two make up during the best moment of the season finale? Wasn't there a drawn-out story line focused on his replacement?

iheartizzie: The episode's title. Instead of "A Change is Gonna Come," they missed a great opportunity to go with "Change is Gonna Come... Out of That Dude's Abdomen!" Come on, Shonda. There was, what, $2.35 in there?

to be honest...George doenst go well wif Izzie at all..they look like gud friends rather than lovers..i just hate the fact that George repsonded to Izzie...i duno what Callied did to deserve it ..i love the last scene of season 3 when they are at the church and Callie came inside the church and announced to Izzie that shes a Chief Resident and planning to hv a baby...Izzy should know her limits that George is married man, and she is so selfish! damn slefish....i wish Shonda kill of George or Izzie's role next season...maybe put George into failing his 2nd intern exam or Izzie resigned ...lol

Well, since there is a poll on this site about whether people want Gizzie together and the eys option is winning, I think you might be in the minority. I have seens everal of those kind of polls about Gizzie and the people wanting them together seem to be more than the ones not wanting them together, that usually makes someone a minority or maybe you know something I don't. I know all my friends want them together. I had one who didn't like them but she converted after the premiere.

Of course, things won't be easy for George and Izzie, I have known that from the beginning, doesn't mean they won't get together in the end. TR and Katie do the whole angst and pining thing really well. As for them not having the lover thing, I could not disagree more. I just saw a promo where they almost kiss and one second of them almost kissing is hotter than any MerDer, Lexzie or anyone else's sex scene. You might not see it, but I def. do and so do a lot of people. Those two are hot together. And so what if the other characters don't approve, does that automatically mean they will listen to them and stop loving each other? They disapproved of MerDer and Dizzie too and none of them are exactly big relationship expert. I can pretty much guarantee you they will be won over by the end of the season. And if yiou watched any TV, you would realize that most couples face the me against us thing.

ImissBurke, I don't know one Gizzie fan who think that things are going to be simple, we are not naive. This Grey, no couple or character has it simple. Of course, there are going to face obstacles and opposition and all the work like all the main couples do, and it probably will take all season for them to be together. To me, George and Izzie have it all, they have the funny banter but they have the angst and the drama and the sexual tension too, plus the emotional connection. They are best friends who love each other and are physicall attracted to each other as well. I am sorry, but MerDer is boring. If they were not the mian couple, I am sure they would have a lot less people rooting for them. Mer whines all the time, and then they have sex, sex, sex. It gets very boring, and I know a lot of people are getting tired of them. I found it interesting that the premiere showed MerDer being about sex, and then you compare that to Gizzie who has the emotional connection and the deep loe for one anotheré

Thank you Just Saying, you said it better than i did, for people getting all worked up and taking everything so literally as to even bashing my relationship with my brother (which is downright comical), i just meant they don't have a lover like thing going. It's more of a friendly bantering than any sexual tension between lovers. More like family as Just Saying says. If you see something more then good. I was just expressing my opinion, which i might add, is not in the minority!

well... additional comments:
i think the worst part of the premiere is the lame excuse the cheif gave bailey for not choosing her... and the way george acts like in the begining.
i totally want mark and derek to be friends they're jst such a great team!! and Derek desperately needs some one to talk to... i mean addison is gone and burke i no longer there...plus mark is hot and derek is hot, hot people shud be friends!!
as i said before alex's facial hair is awesome!!
the best case was i think the deer case... some people hated it bt i think its jst great and i liked what izzie said at the end to her interns about them being duds!! that was soooooo awesome!!
i dont think izzie and george do stand a chance... they're too good at being friends!! and i dont think george can even work up the courge to break-up with callie...
my 2 most favorite parts about the premiere were when alex and Christina talk about rebecca and burke and my second favorite part is when lexi goes to see meredith and derek goes there and calls her, she jst rolls her eyes at lexi and goes with derek!! that was jst sooo freakin awesome :)
all in all it was all good and i cant wait for next week!!

For everyone who is criticizing the brother/sister argument in regards to Gizzie...grow up. NO ONE is saying that they're brother and sister and that's why they shouldn't be together...or that people who use that argument have sick relationships with their siblings. The only thing being stated, is that George and Izzie have always had a more familial/friends feel than a lover feel. A person can totally flirt with friends of the opposite sex and talk about things like masturbation...or joke about having sex...or whatever without having to be "in love." And, personally, I could care less about whether they become a couple or not, but I've always liked the not-so-serious flirting thing they had. It helped keep things light...and that was ruined with the whole "they have to be in love" just because they flirt. Many people have flirted with members of the opposite sex without "love" involved... On a more positive note, I just adore the chemistry between Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey...pure genius!! I really hope Mer gets her happiness sometime this season; she has had to deal with a lot of issues that would've broken many people beyond repair by now. But somehow, our girl still has hope. regarding Lexie...I like her (so far). Except for the totally stupid intro to Mer. And her expecting Mer to just talk to her right away. Everytime family is involved, Mer is kicked in the teeth...developing a relationship with Lexie is not going to come easily, and I don't blame Mer for that. Everytime she tried to form a relationship with her dad, he talked about how great Lexie was...sh*tty thing to do to the daughter he abandoned...talk about the one he didn't... Lexie's not a bad person, and if the family stuff wasn't involved, I could see Mer being friends with her. Just her luck her name was Grey... Derek and Mark are becoming friends again...sort of!! that makes me happy!! I can't wait to see how they repair their friendship; Dempsey and Dane play off of each other really well, and have the potential to be extremely hilarious! Cristina/Alex/Bailey: love them all and am eager to see their storylines develop! :-)

I hate to break it to you Gizzie fans, but something doesn't seem right. Don't think for a second that Shonda is going to let George leave Callie and him and Izzie get together and live happily ever after. Not gonna happen. I think after hearing the quotes from Shonda about the way everyone is going to react when they find out about the two of them that things are not going to go that simple. And after watching the promos for next week it doesn't seem to me that George is happy that he is leaving Callie for Izzie, but he seems just to be happy for leaving Callie period. I think he is going to need some time, George doesn't seem like the type to just leave his wife and jump into a relationship with someone else. At least I hope not, I'm hoping he will redeem himself with me at least, and I'm getting sick of Izzie, she seems like she wants to devour George and not in a good way. I agree with you Christine go, I don't hate the idea of Gizzie, I just hate seeing it, doesn't work for me. More Mer/Der less Gizzie.
What the show is really missing is Burke! Bring him back!
