Grey Chatter: The Miracle of Friendship

by at . Comments

The real story of "Some Kind of Miracle" was friendship.

Grey Chatter: The Miracle of FriendshipA troubled friendship between George and Izzie, a broken friendship on the mend between Derek and Mark, the end of a tangled friendship between Chief Webber and Ellis Grey, and the very real, lasting bond between Cristina and Meredith.

Early in the episode, Izzie takes out her building frustration of not being able to help Meredith on Callie. But Callie holds her ground, as she should.

A distraught Izzie feels like she's losing George, but in her attempt to hold onto him, she might be driving him further away.

Mark Sloan shows an almost-human side as he tries to be a friend to Derek. It seems like they could both use a friend right now, and maybe enough water has finally passed under the bridge for that to happen.

Mark also accepts Addison's challenge to prove he still cares about her, meaning no sex for 60 days. If he's willing to go the distance, he could actually win her back. But even if Mark can do it, chances are Addison can't. She's very vulnerable and unstable right now.

Any advances of any kind from anyone, specifically single interns named Alex Karev, would surely be reciprocated on Addison's part.

The Chief's goodbye to Ellis Grey revealed just how much he did care about her throughout their affair and their subsequent friendship. He knew she would be happier in a better place, with her mind and body whole. But he's going to miss her. They have such a history together that most of his life is built around choices he made regarding Ellis.

It took Meredith nearly dying for Cristina to understand what it means to have Meredith as her "person." We got to understand a little bit of why Cristina does have such a hard time with intimacy. Her fear of losing the people she loves is very real, based on her experience with her father.

If Burke doesn't know this part of her life, he needs to find out. Such issues are bound to creep up later, and if their engagement and marriage are going to last, they need to understand each other a little bit better.

Meredith's own issues are brought to light by the insight of the people she meets in her afterlife. They know she sort of let herself drown, and eventually, Meredith admits this to Denny.

Grey Chatter: The Miracle of Friendship 1

Through her conversation with Denny, she's able to see the pointlessness of letting her issues keep her from living her life. In Denny, Meredith is able to see the full picture of what both she and Derek would experience if she didn't recover from her accident.

Seeing the connection between Denny and Izzie is both heartbreaking and hopeful. But Meredith wants more than that.

Ellis, as she loses her own battle against her illness and meets Meredith in her afterlife, finally gives her the closure she needs to let go of her emotional baggage by telling her she's anything but ordinary.

With these words, Meredith takes off down the hall, back toward the room of doctors that are still working on bringing her back to life.

It's interesting that Cristina is by Meredith's side as she wakes from her brush with death. It's not Derek; it's not any of the other interns. It's Cristina.

Maybe this means their relationship will outlast all the others. Or maybe it's just a coincidence. But either way, both doctors learned something about themselves that will change their lives, and maybe even change the lives of those around them.

I think this up and down relationship is growing tiring. Let them start building a relationship and focus on something else. It's really getting on my nerves, this he loves me, he loves me not. How can educated professionals, doctors no less, be so childish? There's still the who's going to be chief challenge going on, Alex being humanized, Addison and Mark, lots of other fields to play in. Go for it.

I have been reading alot of the GA spoilers for upcoming episodes. I'm really concerned about Mer/Der. I know from the podacast that Shonda and Betsy implied that its not over for Mer/Der sand I'm assuming they mean they till have some things to ironout and thats understandable for what has happened to Mer and Der the last three episodes, but I'm just hoping they will be able to work through these things and FINALLY BE HAPPY! I've read where one of the spoilers are listing alot of things that could possibly happen before season end and only one thing will happen. THe one that concerns me is that Mer and Der hit a roadblock because one of her ex's appear @ her door. (Which doesn't mean that will happen though) and another spoiler says that a females ex will appear and cause a ripple effect in their current realtionship. SURELY they aren't talking aobut BREAKING UP MER and DER after ALL they have been through! COME ON!!!! I'm really hoping and keeping my fingers crossed that thiings work out for them and a proposal is in the making!!!! Please SHonda……..let this couple be HAPPY!!!!
What does everybody else think or am I worrying for NO reason?

I think maybe there are no new episodes because PD needed time of for the twins....As much as I hate to wait for two more weeks it is understandable that he get some family time.

Jennifer-
There is no new episode this week or next. But there will be a new episode on March 15th called "Scars and Souvenirs." Hopefully, we'll be able to see Derek and Meredith talk about her whole near-death experience. But I'm not sure.

Derek SO values Meredith a million times more now.
And it's Funny how Webber didn't really show anything too emotional towards Ellis until she left us.
By the way, I keep hearing about no new episodes for a while again [I hate when Grey's does this xD] - is it true? D=
And I agree with Laura. But no sex yet, unless Meredith demands to be a 'lady' again. [I think that was my favorite episode.]
It's unfortunate that if Rose is right and Shonda DOES do this... I'm not going to say: "Well, what the hell...!" in an angered tone, but a slightly annoyed one. I really DID want to see Meredith and Derek talk it out, as well as see how Mark and Derek were after this. There are a LOT of pairings I wanted to see that would sort out things...

I hope she does'nt skip to far ahead or her issues with Derek won't seem quiet right. But Shonda is good and really has'nt let us down to much. We will just have to wait and see.

OMG, Rose are you serious about Shonda skipping forward in time? I wanted Mer to talk to her friends about her experience and I was SOoo looking forward for romance, Sensuality,Passion and Sex between Mer and Der. What a bummer. I have been so pleased and happy with that last scene with Derek in the hospital bed wrapped around Mer. That I just knew we Mer and Der fans would finally get what we have been waiting for.

As much as I'd love to see some sort of closure with the entire Izzie and Denny situation, I think it would be kind of corny for Meredith to be like "I was in the afterlife and Denny said this, this and this." It kind of reminds me of a bad soap opera and I don't know if I would enjoy if Grey's went in that route. Especially if Shondra says that some time has passed, I'm interested to see in what is addressed and what isn't. I think Meredith does need to explain to Derek that she did not jump in the water, that she was pushed. And that she did later decide to give up, but regretted it immensely when she thought about what it would do to him. I'd really like to see more romantic scenes between the two of them as well! We've waited an entire season to see them together and really happy!! Don't deprive us any longer!

The link below is an interview I ran across of Patrick Dempsey talking about one day moving back to Maine, family and having an onscreen romance. http://www.wmtw.com/video/1109...

Seattlegirl, this was great and very insightful--thanks.
purplemerder--I had hopes that Meredith's near-death experience and other issues would be addressed in the next episode or two. But apparently Shonda has said on her podcast (which I don't have access to) that some time has passed between this and the next episode. So it appears we will be cheated out of Meredith talking about her experiences to Izzie & the others, or even working things through with Derek after the anguish he suffered. Which is just what I was afraid was going to happen.

Grey's Anatomy Quotes

Did you say it? 'I love you. I don't ever want to live without you. You changed my life.' Did you say it? Make a plan. Set a goal. Work toward it, but every now and then, look around; Drink it in 'cause this is it. It might all be gone tomorrow."

Meredith (closing voiceover)

There's a reason I said I'd be happy alone. It wasn't 'cause I thought I'd be happy alone. It was because I thought if I loved someone and then it fell apart, I might not make it. It's easier to be alone, because what if you learn that you need love and you don't have it? What if you like it and lean on it? What if you shape your life around it and then it falls apart? Can you even survive that kind of pain? Losing love is like organ damage. It's like dying. The only difference is death ends. This? It could go on forever.
